Join us this Saturday morning, May 9th, for a clean-up following a volunteer training. The clean-up is at 9 am, the training is at 10 am. Come for one or both!

This Saturday morning, May 9th, will be a busy one at Baxter’s Pond! We’ll meet at 9:00 am to pick up litter, do some planting, and make our park beautiful. At 10 am, we will be joined by native landscaping professionals from Spadefoot Design & Construction who will provide us with hands-on training in how to maintain the new native plantings at Baxter’s Pond while keeping invasives from making a comeback. This will be valuable information for taking care of the Pond & Park—as well as our home gardens!

Our first-ever BPF Block party was SO much fun, and some thank yous are in order:

Thanks to board members Erica Zimmerman Aitken and JessicaSalins Malloy, who serve as our events co-chairs. They did the bulk of the work planning this party, and they did an amazing job! And thanks to all the board members who spent the afternoon helping out!

Thanks to our Baxter Estates neighbor Fred Hsu, who created hours of magical fun with his huge beautiful bubbles!

Thanks to Ayhan’s Mediterranean Marketplace, Carlo's Pizza Port Washington, Harbor Deli, and John Keiserman for the great food!

And a big thanks to everyone who came by, joined in the community spirit and fun, and supported the Baxter’s Pond Foundation!

We were proud to be among the fantastic community and environmental organizations that came together for the Port Washington Public Library’s annual Earth Celebration on Saturday. It was wonderful to see how many of our neighbors are dedicating their time and energy to protecting our environment, stewarding our green spaces, and educating others about sustainable practices.

Thanks to all the kids who stopped by our table to color and all the parents who stopped by to learn about upcoming events, including our May 3rd block party and our May 9th clean-up and volunteer training. We were thrilled to be able to offer a special gift to everyone who came by—packages of notecards featuring beautiful paintings of Baxter’s Pond created by our former board member and dedicated volunteer Caroline Vickers. We’re grateful to her for the many ways she has contributed her talents to the Baxter’s Pond Foundation!

And finally, a big thanks to our Senior Experience intern Jake Saltos for helping out at our table.

Before heading to the BPF Block Party on Sunday, May 3rd, we hope you will join community members for the second annual walk in support of Jack Jack, who walks three miles every day, rain or shine! The walk is free but you can donate to help find a cure for Jack’s rare disease, Alstrom Syndrome.

HAPPY EARTH DAY!🌎

Join us on Saturday!

UPDATE: We’ve created a form to sign up for the bioblitz. Please RSVP here: https://forms.gle/f1UyWrv63iE127j6A

On Saturday, April 25th, we will celebrate Earth Day in two ways:

(1) We’ll have a table at the Annual Earth Day Celebration from noon until 4:00 pm. Come find us, learn more about our work, and take part in a kid-friendly craft.

(2) We’ll co-host a “biobilitz” with youth activists, who will guide nature walks at Baxter’s Pond as part of the iNaturalist City Challenge. Participants will learn how to use the iNaturalist app to document the Pond & Park’s flora and fauna. By collecting data with our smartphones and uploading it to the iNaturalist database, we will be contributing to the world’s largest community science biodiversity census.

Join us to help build a clearer picture of our local ecosystems. Even a single observation contributes to a growing collective understanding of the living landscape around us and empowers care, restoration, and protection.
