Port Wentworth Emergency Management's missions is to promote the protection of life and property against man-made and natural disasters by directing the state's efforts in the areas of prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. The purpose of the Port Wentworth Emergency Management's social media accounts is to present matters of public interest. We encourage you to submit your

questions, comments, and concerns, but please note these are moderated online discussion sites. However, given the need to manage our staff resources (your tax dollars), we generally only monitor comments and postings during regular business hours. Once comments posted, the Port Wentworth Emergency Management reserves the right to remove submissions that contain:

CEMA Alert:

FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM MONDAY TO 9 AM EST TUESDAY

* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures ranging from the mid to upper 20s inland to around freezing just inland from the beaches.

* WHERE...Portions of southeast Georgia and southeast South Carolina.

* WHEN...From 9 PM Monday to 9 AM EST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Blustery west to northwest winds will also push wind chill values into the upper teens to lower 20s inland to the mid to upper 20s at the beaches early Tuesday morning.

Tropical Depression Nine Update!

By Tuesday afternoon, the system is predicted to turn eastward and move out to sea as a hurricane.
The new predicted offshore track changes the potential rainfall totals for our area to a forecasted 1-2 inches, with the possibility of isolated higher totals.

We will continue to monitor the storm but this shift towards the east is favorable for our area.

We are continuing to monitor the development of Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 (PTC 9) as it is forecasted to develop into Tropical Storm Imelda possibly later today/tonight.

PTC 9 has the potential for rain accumulation between 2-5" inches. This does open up the potential for storm surge flooding, along with large sea swells beginning Monday-it will not be the best day for boating!
Prepare for strong tropical storm force winds beginning Monday, please make sure to secure loose and light items around your property.

Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 is expected to become a tropical storm this weekend, bringing an increased threat of heavy rainfall to Coastal Georgia early next week.

We will continue to monitor the storm as it develops, along with updates regarding any potential road closures due to flooding.

Make sure to secure any loose or light items around your home as there is an increased chance of wind gusts.
