Our department mourns the loss of Laurie Gucinski, a devoted EMT and partner in public safety. We were proud to serve alongside her, and we honor the commitment and care she gave to every call. Her impact on this community and on those who worked with her will never be forgotten.

Laurie Jane Gucinski, age 73, of Port Wing, passed away peacefully, with her loving family by her side, Monday, October 6, 2025 at Aspirus St. Lukes Hospital in Duluth, MN. Laurie was born February 24, 1952 in Clear Lake, WI, the daughter of Jack and Jane Larson Allen. She was

What a weekend in Port Wing! 🍂🎣

Between the Fall Festival and the Fish Boil, our little town was buzzing. We want to send out a huge THANK YOU to everyone who stopped by our booth—whether you grabbed a burger, picked up a t-shirt or sweatshirt, bought raffle tickets, made a donation, or caught some of our parade candy along the way. 🍬❤️

Your support keeps the Port Wing Volunteer Fire Department and our Auxiliary going strong. We’re also grateful for the way this community shows up year after year to support the other local groups and volunteers who make this weekend possible. 🚒🔥

We’re proud to serve such a generous, big-hearted community. Thank you, Port Wing!

Hey sports fans… you know the phrase “you play like you practice”? Same goes for PWVFD’s monthly training exercises. Only fighting fire is no game.

The majority of the territory we cover does not have ready access to wet fire hydrants. And you’d be shocked to learn how quickly the team can disperse the 10,000 gallons from our No. 4 tanker truck after first arriving on a scene.

Queue the water brigade!

Our No. 6 rescue truck sets up to control traffic. The No. 1 engine parks near it and adjacent to our imaginary blaze. The 1,500 gallon drop tank is deployed and positioned behind No. 1, ready to receive more water and feed it to the engine.

Meanwhile, the No. 2 pumper is hooked up to our nearest water source - a “dry hydrant” pipe that allows water to be sucked up from the Flag River. A team is stationed here, ready to fill up the tanker.

And then the tanker runs water relay, back and forth from the water source to the fire. Safe drive time between the two is what it is. We accomplish our mission faster not through the accelerator but through practice deploying our equipment, connecting hose lines efficiently, and teamwork.
