The Portage Public Library is looking for a friendly, detail-oriented Library Assistant to join our team!
As a Library Assistant in Technical Services, you'll play an important role in maintaining our library collections and supporting daily library operations at our information desk. This position is perfect for someone who enjoys working with technology, staying organized, solving problems, and contributing to a welcoming, community-focused environment.
What You'll Do:
• Assist patrons at the Information Desk
• Catalog and process new library materials
• Assist with receiving, and preparing materials for circulation
• Help train circulation staff in collection processing procedures
• Support the Adult Services and Outreach Librarian and other library operations as needed
What We're Looking For:
• A friendly, positive attitude and strong communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Comfort using computers and learning new technology
• The ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
• A commitment to providing excellent service to patrons and coworkers
Qualifications:
• High school diploma required; Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred
• Minimum of six months of related work experience or training required
• Previous library experience is helpful but not required
• Must be comfortable using technology and learning new software systems
This is a part-time position, $15.00 per hour, and is not eligible for benefits.
Schedule: This library assistant position hours will all be at the Information Desk.
Monday- 3:30-7:00
Wednesday- 3:30-7:00
1st Saturday of the month- 8:45-2:15
