Yesterday, we officially broke ground on the future of Amberly Elementary.

Joined by city officals, commmunity partners, staff, and students, we celebrated the start of a project that will serve generations of learners to come. As shovels hit the dirt, so did the steps tward a new school. Built to inspire, support, and empower every student who walks through it's doors.

storytelling and some very special friendships

Today, 6th graders from Portage Central Middle shared the books they created with their elementary buddies after months of collaboration and learning together. Students combined Science and English skills by interviewing their buddies about their favorite animals and habitats, then turned those conversations into personalized stories and books.

It was a full-circle moment seeing the students finally share their hard work with the buddies who inspired it.

Our second graders had an unforgettable day at the Kalamazoo Growlers game! From cheering in the stands to making memories with classmates, it was the perfect day at the ballpark.

Experiences like these help bring learning, community, and fun together outside of the classroom, and judging by the smiles, we’d say it was a home run!

Now pitching for Portage Public Schools… Superintendent Johnny Edwards!

Superintendent Edwards took the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Kalamazoo Growlers game! We are proud to see our district represented in the community and grateful for opportunities like this to celebrate Portage Public Schools beyond the classroom.

Thank you to the Growlers for an incredible evening at the ballpark!

History came to life today at Woodland Elementary!

Students transformed into influential figures from the past for the school’s Wax Museum, sharing stories, facts, and moments from history through creative presentations and costumes. From inventors to leaders to world changers, their hard work and creativity were on full display!

Superintendent Edwards stopped by to capture the fun and celebrate the incredible learning happening in our schools. Great job to all of the students and staff who made this event such a memorable experience!
