Nicolas and Lester are from Sontole, Nicaragua. Bismar came to help them harvest honey for the second time, before the rainy season arrives in Nicaragua.
But upon inspection of one hive, they discovered a new queen with larva and eggs but no puppa, so they decided to split the colony as there was not enough honey to be harvested.

Bismar also visited with Miriam and her son Kevin on Ometepe Island. They are new beekeepers and very excited to start beekeeping. There are good sources of pollen and nectar on Ometepe Island and the colonies are looking good.

Sergio is also a new beekeeper on Ometepe Island and is helped by his nephew. His hives are looking good.

Bismar also visited Mario and Oswaldo, also in Moyagalpa on Ometepe Island. Mario and Oswaldo are new beekeepers too and all excited about their colonies. They knew the answers to the 3 questions Bismar asked them, which is what the Nicaragua Bee Project teaches --
1. Is there a queen?
2. Is there sufficient food?
3. Is there adequate space?

Eduar is one of the earliest and first Nicaraguan beekeepers in our project. He sent me this recent posting of him and his family out in the bee yard. This is his eldest daughter who was helping him tend the bees and she got stung. Uffdah. The last picture is one taken 10 years ago, with Eduar on the far right.

Last Tuesday, April 21st, Maynor visited Ricardo in Asiento Viejo near Teustepe, Nicaragua. Ricardo is a beekeeper in the Nicaragua Bee Project for 1 year. He has been managing his hives very well and will harvest honey for the first time this weekend.
Ricardo is happy to have bees because they pollinate the vegetables he raises on his farm.

Josue gets his bee suit

NICARAGUA BEE PROJECT
Muchas Gracias to Stephen Havlovic of Ohio who has funded a bee suit for Josue so he can accompany his father Gregorio out into the bee yard. Josue will get the suit this November when we next travel to Nicaragua.
You all are invited to join us on this trip and see how Josue looks in his new bee suit.
Special thanks to Dadant's of Watertown, Wisconsin for supplying us the bee suit at cost.
