INCIDENT RECAP: High-Angle Medical Rescue
​Not every call is the same! On Sunday evening around 7:45 PM, Portageville Rescue was dispatched to the 400 block of East 4th Street for a unique rescue call.
​An individual had climbed a tree to retrieve an item when they suffered a medical emergency, leaving them unable to climb back down safely.
​Responding firefighters quickly deployed ladders to reach the individual, secured them safely in a rescue harness, and carefully lowered them to the ground using a rope system. The patient was immediately turned over to the waiting EMS crew and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
​Great job to all crews involved for a quick, safe, and professional multi-agency response!

Portageville Fire Department – Incident Update
​Friday Call Summary
​2:49 PM | Two-Vehicle Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA)
Portageville Rescue was paged to a two-vehicle crash where a passenger car rear-ended a semi-truck, blocking the passing lane. Rescue 1 responded to the scene. Firefighters provided traffic control while officers handled the crash investigation. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
​Afternoon | Automatic Fire Alarm (Bandy Road)
Shortly after returning to quarters, crews were paged for a fire alarm on Bandy Road. Engine 1 responded, but units were canceled en route by the alarm company prior to arrival.
​Saturday Call Summary
​5:52 PM | Vehicle Fire (I-55, 37 Mile Marker)
Portageville Fire was paged to a vehicle fire on Interstate 55 near the 37-mile marker. Engine 1 and Tanker 15 responded and arrived to find a small passenger car fully involved in flames. Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire. Although the car was considered a total loss, no injuries were reported. All units returned to service at approximately 7:00 PM.

Little update for tonight's event. We look forward to seeing everyone tonight
As we prepare for a fun-filled evening, here are a few key updates so everyone can enjoy the event safely:
​📍 Location: Southwest side of the park (where the old city pool was located).
🛑 Road Closure: 10th Street will be closed between Florida Avenue and MacArthur Avenue.
🚗 Parking/Entrance: Parents can enter off Florida Avenue or McCrate Avenue.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Supervision: All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

On Tuesday morning at approximately 6:30 AM, the Portageville Fire Department was requested for mutual aid by the Lilbourn Fire Department for a structure fire off U.S. Highway 62 in New Madrid County. Engine 1 and Tanker 15 responded to the call.
​Prior to emergency crews arriving on scene, responding deputies reported a two-story residential structure with heavy fire showing. Because there were no fire hydrants in the immediate vicinity, a tanker operation was established. This brought in additional water shuttle resources from the New Madrid and Marston fire departments.
​Upon arrival, firefighters found the two-story home fully involved. Crews worked aggressively to suppress and extinguish the fire, but despite their best efforts, the home was determined to be a total loss.
​Excellent teamwork, seamless tanker shuttle operations, and coordinated on-scene fire ground management—coupled with traffic and scene control from law enforcement—kept the entire operation running safely and smoothly.

On Saturday at approximately 8:53 a.m., Portageville Rescue was dispatched to a single-vehicle crash with entrapment. On East Highway 162 near Portageville.

Upon arrival, crews found a single-cab pickup truck overturned on its roof with the driver trapped inside. Firefighters stabilized the vehicle while other crew members began extrication efforts.

The driver was successfully freed from the vehicle and was evaluated by New Madrid County Ambulance personnel. She was then transported to the Portageville landing zone, where she was airlifted to a hospital with injuries.

On Monday morning around 1:30 Portageville Fire was requested for mutual aid in Marston for residential structure fire. Engine 1 & Tanker 15 responded upon arrival crews found 2 story home with heavy fire showing. Marston Fire was battling the front of house while trying to protect nearby exposures. Portageville crews went to other side of residence. Firefighters faced many challenges including live electrical lines falling on the ground and several items exploding around the house. Crews would remain on scene through the rest of morning containing the fire. The home was a total loss, but no other homes were damaged by the fire.

On Monday morning around 1:30 a.m., the Portageville Fire Department was requested for mutual aid in Marston for a residential structure fire. On East Elm Street in Marston. Engine 1 and Tanker 15 responded to the scene. Upon arrival, crews found a two-story home with heavy fire showing.

Marston Fire crews were battling flames at the front of the house while working to protect nearby exposures. Portageville crews positioned on the opposite side of the residence to assist with fire suppression efforts.

Firefighters faced several challenges throughout the incident, including live electrical lines falling to the ground and multiple explosions occurring around the home. Crews remained on scene through the rest of the morning containing the fire.

The home was declared a total loss; however, no other homes were damaged in the fire.

05/14/2026

On Wednesday evening around 7:00 p.m., the Portageville Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire in the 500 block of LeSieur Avenue. Engine 1 and Tanker 15 responded to the scene, where heavy smoke was visible upon arrival.

Firefighters discovered a shop behind a residence fully engulfed in flames. Crews acted quickly to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby homes. Smoke had entered one residence, but firefighters were able to clear it out before the fire reached the home.

Power lines and several trees in the yard had also caught fire. Crews remained on scene until approximately 11:00 p.m. extinguishing hotspots. The shed was declared a total loss.
