Today is national women’s quality day. Women experience significantly higher risks of sexual violence compared to their male counterparts. This is why pushing for the equality of women is such a massive deal, as women receive better rights and respect, their likelihood of experiencing sexual violence decreases. Today, we want to thank and honor all of the women who worked so hard to push for the civil rights that many of us women enjoy today.

Today is National Disability Independence Day, a day celebrating when the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law. The ADA protects the employment of individuals with disabilities, as well as provides access to resources. Access to these resources and employment opportunities can decrease the risk of violence for individuals with disabilities, including sexual violence!

We are looking for individuals who want to help Arise further its mission of serving survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. We are looking for a board chair, treasurer, and secretary, as well as voting members. You can build your resume and improve where you live by working with us!

Residents of Curry, Roosevelt, Quay, Union, Harding, and De Baca counties over 18 are eligible to join.

Did you know that our advocates provide resource connection? We help our survivors meet a variety of needs following an assualt. Our advocates can help with referrals to food, housing, relocation, and counseling referrals, among other services. We do our best to assist survivors on their path to recovery and meet their indiviudal needs.

Resilience does not mean pushing through everything without support. It means knowing what helps you recover after a hard day and actually making time for it. That might be going for a walk in nature, playing basketball, skateboarding, or just stepping away from your phone for a while.

There is no right answer, just whatever makes you feel more like yourself.

Consent is not just a conversation for one-on-one situations. It applies everywhere, including parties, group hangouts, cookouts, and public events. Checking in with others, respecting when someone says no (or does not say yes), and speaking up when something feels off are all part of how we create safer communities together.
