The following online classes will be offered by the Emergency Management program during Summer 2015, which runs from June 1 to July 24. Registration begins April 16. If you are not currently enrolled and taking classes this semester, please consider making your plans now and beat the last minute rush!
EMGT 401 - Intro to Homeland Security (3 sem. hours): This course discusses the implications of homeland security issues from an Emergency Manager and Emergency Service Leader's perspective. Topics discussed will include, but not be limited to: Causes, psychology and motivation of terrorists; Weapons of Mass Destruction; Legal implications for enforcement and civil liberties; and Preparedness, Response, Recovery and Prevention / Mitigation from a homeland security / emergency management perspective.
EMGT 493 - Topics in Emergency Management (NIMS and ICS) (3 sem. hours): This course is designed to give the successful student a fundamental yet practical understanding of the incident management system. Core components of the coursework link to FEMA online training sites allowing students to obtain certifications in IS-800(National Response Framework), IS-700(National incident Management System) and ICS-100B (Introduction to the Incident Command System). In addition, students develop an understanding of the ICS system, the use of ICS Forms, developing an Incident Action Plan (IAP), understanding Emergency and Disaster Declarations, the use of WebEOC and an introductory understanding regarding the Stafford Act, Presidential Policy Directive-5 and Homeland Security Policy Directive-5.
EMGT 475 - Capstone in Emergency Management (3 sem. hours): The permission of the instructor required. This course is a series of case studies that integrate material covered in all courses in the program.
