PORTER CORNERS- William F. “Bill” Richmond, 90, of Allen Road, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 23, 1936 in Peekskill, he was the son of the late Paul and Ethel (Pomeroy) Richmond.
Bill graduated from Peekskill High School.
He then joined the United States Army in 1955, serving in the Army Corps as a heavy equipment operator, serving in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1958.
Bill married Marydel Wieland on January 23, 1966 in Peekskill, NY and the couple resided in Hopewell Junction for several years before moving to Porter Corners, where they built and operated Della Mobile Estates for 30 years. She passed away Jan. 17, 1991 following 25 years of marriage.
He was employed for many years as a heavy equipment operator, working for the International Union of Operating Engineers in Peekskill and also worked independently with his backhoe in the Greenfield Center area. When you worked with Billy you didn’t have to wonder who was in charge. He also served as the Town of Greenfield Highway Superintendent from 1976 until 1990. He also worked many years escorting oversized loads all over the country, making many friends along the way.
Bill was a life member of the Porter Corners Fire Dept Co. 2, and also served as the Fire Commissioner for the Greenfield Fire District for many years.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling with his family.
Besides his wife and his parents, he was also predeceased by one son, Robert E. Richmond, one sister, Jean Cox and his brother, Paul Richmond Jr.; and two companions, Gloria Adams and Eva Mae Jones.
Survivors include two children, Della Robarge (Tom) of Porter Corners and William F. Richmond Jr. (Carol) of Oregon; four grandchildren, including Taylor Corlew (Zach) of Porter Corners; and seven great-grandchildren; and his significant other, Sharon King of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Committal Service will be held at a later date to be announced at the Gerald B H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Community Hospice of Saratoga for their kind and compassionate care, and a special thanks to Bill’s neighbors, Patty and Jim Dorey.
The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory go to Porter Corners Fire Company No. 2, 405 Bockes Road, Porter Corners, NY, 12859.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Densmore Funeral Home, Inc., 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth.

Greenfield Fire District Companies 1&2 practiced firefighter rescue. Scenarios included second floor rescue as well as a simulated floor collapse with an injured firefighter falling into the basement. The crew sent a firefighter to the basement to prep the downed firefighter and then lifted the downed firefighter up through the hole using ropes. We thank MBK training for their help and guidance during this training.

For the fifth consecutive year, we sent members to Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis. This conference provides an outstanding opportunity for our members to train with and learn from some of the best in the fire service.

This year, District Chief Bogardus, Assistant Chief Murray, Assistant Chief King, Lieutenant Lake, and Lieutenant Hao attended.
