This morning, members of our crew enjoyed breakfast at Northside Diner and were surprised to learn that their bill had been taken care of by two gentlemen dining there as well.

We may not know their names, but we hope this thank you reaches them.

To the two gentlemen who generously picked up the tab for our firefighters — thank you. It was an incredibly thoughtful gesture and one that certainly did not go unnoticed.

Our crew truly appreciated it, and we wanted to make sure we took a moment to publicly recognize such a generous act.

Thank you for breakfast, gentlemen. It meant more than you know! 🚒

A quick update from our friends at Wagner’s

After everything they’ve done to support and feed our firefighters during the storm, we want to help spread the word. Their power is back, but unfortunately, they discovered additional storm damage and equipment issues and aren’t able to reopen just yet.

Please give their page a follow and share their update so they can keep their phone lines open for the crews working to get them back up and running.

❤️ UPDATE — THIS ONE DESERVES A SPECIAL THANK YOU ❤️

We’ve been incredibly grateful for all of the kindness shown to our firefighters lately, but we had to share this one. 🥹❤️

The Walton family stopped by the station with Hazel, Roy, and Ellis, who brought our firefighters snacks along with some very special handmade drawings and thank-you notes.

“Thank you firefighters for everyone that you helped and saved.”

“We love you!”

Those are some pretty powerful words coming from some pretty awesome kids. ❤️

Their artwork is already proudly displayed at the station — and we have a feeling it’ll be staying there for quite a while. The snacks, on the other hand… those didn’t stand much of a chance. 😂

Hazel, Roy, and Ellis, thank you for taking the time to make something special for our firefighters and for coming to see us. You absolutely made their day.

And to the Walton family, thank you for raising some incredibly thoughtful kiddos and for sharing a little kindness with our station.

These are the moments that remind us just how special the community we get to serve really is. ❤️🚒

☕️❤️ AND THE KINDNESS JUST KEEPS COMING…

Apparently our thank-you post earlier today was a little premature, because our community wasn’t finished taking care of our firefighters yet. ❤️

A couple of hours later, some of our crew stopped at Starbucks, where they crossed paths with a wonderful Chesterton resident named Karen.

Karen very generously stepped up and paid for all of their coffees. ☕️

Karen, we hope you see this because we want you to know how much that simple act of kindness was appreciated. After the week our crews and our entire community have had, moments like this truly mean a lot.

Thank you for thinking of our firefighters and treating them to a much-needed caffeine boost. 😂❤️

❤️ A THANK YOU TO OUR COMMUNITY ❤️

Over the last several days, we’ve had some incredibly thoughtful people stop by the station and drop off food, drinks, snacks, and other goodies for our crews.

After a long week of storm response, cleanup, power outages, and everything else our community has been working through, those acts of kindness have meant a lot.

Whether you brought an entire meal, dropped something off for the station, checked in on our crews, or simply took a moment to tell them thank you — we appreciate you.

Our firefighters are volunteers, and knowing that the community they serve is thinking about them during weeks like this means more than you may realize.

So, to everyone who has shown our department a little extra kindness this week: thank you for taking care of us while we’ve been helping take care of Porter. ❤️

We are incredibly grateful to be part of this community.

If you had ANY property damage from the August 11 storm — big or small — PLEASE report it to Indiana 211.

Porter County is officially ACTIVE for Indiana 211 Storm Damage Reporting for the August 11, 2026 storm.

Please do not assume your damage is too minor to report. Every report helps provide a more accurate picture of just how significantly Porter County was impacted.

🏠 WHAT CAN YOU REPORT?

🌳 Fallen trees or large limbs that caused property damage
🏠 Roof, siding, gutters, windows, or structural damage
🪵 Fences damaged or blown down
🏚️ Garages, sheds, barns, or other outbuildings
🚗 Vehicles damaged by trees, limbs, or storm debris
💧 Flooding or water damage
⚡ Storm-related electrical or utility damage
🌪️ Other wind or storm-related property damage

❓ WHY DOES REPORTING MATTER?

A damaged fence, a tree through a shed, missing shingles, or a damaged vehicle might not seem significant compared to what someone else experienced — but it still counts.

When reports from across Porter County are combined, they help emergency management officials understand the overall extent of the damage, identify community needs, and provide information that may support requests for disaster assistance.

Your individual report is one piece of the bigger picture.
