Press Release – Captain Jesus Castillo
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

It is with heavy hearts that Montgomery County Emergency Service District No. 6 – Porter Fire announces the passing of Captain Jesus Castillo following his courageous battle with cancer.

Captain Castillo dedicated his life to serving others and embodied the values of the fire service through his leadership, professionalism, and commitment to the community. He was a respected officer, mentor, and firefighter whose impact will be felt for years to come.

Throughout his career, Captain Castillo touched countless lives through his service, dedication to his fellow firefighters, and unwavering commitment to protecting our community's citizens.
His legacy will continue through those he trained, led, and inspired.

During this difficult time, we ask our community, our fire service family, and all who knew Captain Castillo to keep his wife, Taylor, and their children, Titan and Athena, in your thoughts and prayers.
Funeral and memorial service arrangements are pending and will be shared as information becomes available.

Montgomery County Emergency Service District No. 6 – Porter Fire extends its deepest condolences to the Castillo family and all those mourning this tremendous loss.

From July through September, the leading causes of preventable wildfires in Texas are debris burning and equipment use - which includes farm equipment and lawn mowers.

The burning of residential trash in subdivisions is prohibited year round in Montgomery County.

It’s way too hot for most folks to consider raking leaves or picking up limbs, but if you do muster the courage to do so, please don’t burn until conditions improve.

Follow these tips when working with heavy equipment:

🚜 Keeping your equipment clean and free from debris, oil, and grease buildups will help prevent your equipment catching fire.
🚜 Keep a fire extinguisher on each piece of heavy equipment and ensure operators are trained in their use.
🚜 Avoid idling equipment on dry grass or vegetation, as the heat from the equipment can ignite a fire.
🚜 Have a spotter on-site who can monitor for signs of ignition and respond quickly if a fire starts.
🚜 If possible, schedule heavy equipment work in the early morning when temperatures are cooler and humidity levels are higher, reducing the risk of ignition.

Congratulations to Firefighter Gordillo on his promotion to Engineer!! Gordillo has been with the department for three years assigned to the B shift and will be assigned to Engine 121/C.

Data from NHTSA shows that tragically, 4 children have died in the last week after being left or forgotten in a hot car. The heat wave continues to climb over the next week and families are adjusting to new school schedules.

Congratulations to Firefighter Ty Gibson (middle) on his promotion to Engineer! Gibson has been with the Porter Fire Department assigned to Fire Station 121 for five years and will be assigned to Engine 122/A - Chief Johnson and Lt. Cochran presented him with his badge and shield.
