The Bureau of Reclamation announced earlier this week that the Class 1 allocation for Friant Division contractors was increased to 95%. With this announcement, PID has plans to start an irrigation/recharge run on Monday, 04/08/24.

Feb 16-21: Overall, a 40% chance (moderate risk) of hazardous, heavy precipitation, including heavy rain and heavy snow (mountains), as well as strong winds across our service area. This is also depicted in map (b).

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued, in effect from 4 PM Wednesday afternoon until 4 PM Friday afternoon for the Sierra Nevada. Moderate to heavy snowfall is possible as a result of a system moving through Central California this week. Travel may be extremely difficult to almost impossible. Plan on road closures due to snowfall.

At 5 AM PDT Friday, August 18th, 2023, Hilary is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Hurricane Hilary will weaken this weekend as it moves northward over cooler waters. Hilary is expected to be a tropical storm Sunday afternoon, before it reaches Southern California. There is a moderate risk (40-70%) of excessive rainfall in the Kern County desert Sunday afternoon through Monday. There is a slight risk (15-40%) of excessive rainfall in the remainder of Kern County, the Sierra Nevada, and adjacent foothills Sunday night and Monday.

💦 District staff measured 0.55” at the office this morning to bring March’s total to 4.62” and the total this rainfall year since Oct 1st to a whopping 16.74”! And there’s more in the forecast.

There is a marginal risk of excessive rainfall in the Sierra Nevada foothills, eastern San Joaquin Valley, and Kern County mountains, which could lead to flooding or worsen ongoing flooding. The heaviest rainfall is expected this afternoon.
