CHMA. Comision Honorifica Mexicana Americana, Inc. Comision Honorifica Mexicana-Americana (CHMA) is a nonprofit organization. Comision Honorifica Mexicana-Americana, Inc.

(CHMA) was established 84 years ago under the auspices of the Mexican Consulate as a means for those foreign workers who came to the states to have a way to come together and socialize. This was also a place to go to when one of their own passed away to have means to send their loved back to the home country. As the years passed, mission of the Comision changed as the needs changed. At one point t

he Mexican Consulate stepped aside and each organization was left to continue as stand-alone organization. Some folded and some continued with the original intent to serve the Latino community. Porterville CHMA stayed fast and has continued the mission by evolving into a 501c3 non-profit organization. We sponsor and co-sponsor activities or events that promote the socio-economic welfare of our community and enhance cultural awareness. One of our long standing events is our annual City of Porterville Cinco De Mayo Celebration which includes parade, queen’s competition and other activities which is going on 60 plus years. We have also sponsored the Porterville Area US Marines Toys For Tots program for 13 years. We have met our goal of having our own building which was an old packing house. This allows us to house the Toys For Tots program during its annual campaign which start Oct 1 thru January 15. Last year the program was able to service over 6,000 children at 22 sites. Some of the other activities and events that we are or having been involved in our Voter Registration, 2010 Census, Annual Christmas Food Basket Give-Away, Annual Dia De Los Muertos/Day of the Dead celebration, Rebozo Celebration and 16th of September Independence Celebration.
