Parent Advisory Council of Oregon

Parent Advisory Council of Oregon The PAC is comprised of parents who contribute to the wellbeing of families in their communities. All members are in long-term recovery.

The Parent Advisory Council brings the unfiltered voices of parents to the Executive Leadership of Oregon's Child Welfare system, bridging the gap between Child Welfare and vulnerable families. PAC History: The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) began in 2015 at the direction of Ruth Taylor, Parents Anonymous of Oregon Program Director, and the Director of Oregon DHS Child Welfare. All members of the

PAC are former consumers of Child Welfare services and experienced out of home placement of their children due to substance use disorder.

The Parent Advisory Council advocates for parents to have increased family time with their children, which has been especially important and presented unique challenges throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Family time offers reassurance for children and their parents, opportunities to strengthen cultural and kinship connections, and motivation for parents to enroll in treatment or meet other permanency plan requirements. Although there is no generally accepted way to structure family time to optimize chances for reunification, families that spend time together regularly have a greater likelihood of timely reunification, and frequent family connections may also decrease depression, anxiety, and externalizing problem behaviors in children." - Casey Family Programs.
