Rock Creek's restoration began when a large volume of trees was planted at the base of a landowner's property. When beavers arrived, many of the trees were quickly repurposed as building material. Rather than fight nature's course, West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District and the landowner made the decision to let the pond stay and allow the ecosystem to develop naturally. Nearly two decades later, the surviving trees have flourished into a thriving riparian corridor — and recent research shows restored areas like this can sequester approximately 33 tons of carbon per acre.

This thriving ecosystem showcases what's possible when conservation districts and local landowners embrace nature's ability to adapt on stewarded land. Today, visitors can spot Oregon grape, green herons nesting in the trees, twinberry bushes, red alders thriving at the water's edge, and fresh raccoon tracks in the mud, all evidence of a vibrant wildlife corridor nearly two decades in the making.

Not a workshop, presentation or training, but a place for conversation. From Unite Oregon: Immigrant and refugee communities, communities of color, youth, elders, and neighborhood leaders have long practiced resilience through relationships, mutual aid, cultural knowledge, and caring for one another. Those experiences should help shape what resilience looks like in our communities.
