HISTORY: Oregon’s Commission on Black Affairs was created to be a link between Oregon’s African Americans, Blacks, and Oregon government. Three years later, the Oregon Legislative Assembly’s vote made it a statutory commission. The goal was to improve communication between the state legislature, The Governor, and Oregon’s African Americans and Blacks, to involve more African American and Blacks in

It is with our deepest condolences that we extend our sympathies to the Gordly and Burch families on the passing of our beloved Avel Gordly.

Senator Gordly will forever be remembered as Albina’s own faithful servant – a trailblazing leader, tireless advocate, and the first Black woman to serve in the Oregon State Senate. Her extraordinary contributions to mental health awareness, environmental justice, community advocacy, and public service have left an enduring legacy of compassion, strength, and justice.

Her passing is our profound loss. We will continue the work she embodied as a truly faithful servant. May she rest in eternal peace.

OCBA is thrilled to welcome our newest commissioner, Kenny Adams!

Kenny Adams is a dedicated father, filmmaker, writer, orator, and community advocate with over three decades of professional IT experience. As a passionate activist and the executive director of a Black-led non-profit, he is committed to empowering students and families in a community where the Black population makes up just over half a percent. Kenny’s work focuses on bridging gaps in education, providing vital support to prioritized populations, and creating pathways for success.

Through his advocacy, he champions equity, cultural enrichment, and access to resources that uplift individuals and families. With his wealth of experience in both technology and community engagement, Kenny continues to drive positive change and inspire those around him.

Kenny Adams resides in Central Oregon, where he serves as the executive director of The Father's Group, a community-driven organization dedicated to empowering Black youth and families. The Father’s Group focuses on education, cultural enrichment, and community-building initiatives, helping to create a more inclusive and equitable future. Kenny’s leadership reflects his deep commitment to fostering opportunities for prioritized populations, ensuring their voices are heard and their contributions valued in the broader community.
