🚨PLEASE VACCINATE YOUR PETS🚨
There is currently a Canine Influenza outbreak in Middle TN. 🤒 😷 🐕
Canine Influenza is a highly infectious respiratory disease. There are two known strains of dog flu found in the United States, H3N8 & H3N2.
Veterinarian’s are recommending the Canine Influenza vaccine for your dog if they go to any grooming, daycare, boarding, dog park facilities or any Public areas.
Canine Influenza vaccine covers both (H3N8 & H3N2) stains to provide the best protection.

🚨PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! 🚨
We beg everyone to please keep your pets indoors and comfortable this next week. The Heat Advisory states the heat Index values are expected to be 110 all this week.
-ADEQUATE WATER & SHELTER IS A MUST-
Animals outdoors must have fresh/cool drinkable water that’s accessible at all times, shelter must be out of the direct sunlight (dog houses ect. can become ovens at 110-220 degrees.) and able to keep the animal cool.
We strongly advise against walking pets during the day on any pavement. Pavement temps will be in excess of 130 degrees this week. Your pets feet can easily burn and this is one of they ways your pet sweat and cool themselves.
Please do your part in keeping pets safe and properly cared for. Our shelter is at capacity and everyone needs to take responsibility for your pets. They rely on you to make sure they are safe and cared for. They have no voice…. We are their voice so please do your part in keeping your pets safe.
Check your fences, gates, make sure you have water bowls prepared, fans are working, and you check on your pets often.
There will be NO warnings issued for any form of neglect, welfare, or other heat related offenses! Offenses must be corrected immediately! CITY ORDINANCE AND STATE LAW- ADEQUATE FOOD, WATER AND SHELTER !

Notice;
After much consideration and discussion with my staff, I have decided to prohibit the discharging of fireworks inside the City of Portland until further notice. This will coincide with the current open burn ban. We assess multiple resources daily to monitor the fire risk in our area. Portland did not get the rainfall this past weekend that was forecasted. Our area has been unusually dry for this time of year. The Nashville region has only received 0.88 inches of rainfall for the month of June, well below the normal average. By comparison, June 2021 Middle TN received 2.21 inches of precipitation. With the dry conditions, lower humidity, and expected wind conditions, our area is currently at a high risk for fire danger. We will continue to monitor and access the risk. There is a slight rain chance for our area this coming weekend. Please, continue to follow our social media posts for any updates.

RESCUE SECURED ! PLEASE TAG 501c3 RESCUES !!!! Times up Wednesday April 6th. These two had baths, nails trimmed, wormed and now it’s play time ! They are well behaved ! 😁 they love 🍌 🫐 !

People always ask what happens to the dogs and cats that we take to animal control.... we play with them ! 😁

***Have been sent to rescue ***On Monday Sept. 14, 2020 Animal Control was called to a residence on Hood Trail to do a welfare check on some animals. We ended up executing a warrant and ended up with 27 animals surrendered into our custody. If anyone would like to donate we could use bleach, Canned puppy food and Formula. We need an Emergency foster or an adoptor for a ball python snake 🐍 . Our Veterinary care will be done by Crocker Animal Care. We have some rescues for 13-17 of the Dogs. We are still Looking for RESCUES ONLY to pull 6 dogs and 2 adult cats and 4 kittens. At this time these animals are no where near adoption ready for health reasons. 615-325-5330 if you can help. Thank You 😊 (Not all animals are in the video below)

Comments
The act of leaving a pet outside without food or adequate shelter often receives less attention than a violent attack against an animal, but neglect is a crime.
Dogs and cats, for example, feel the effects of winter weather as much as we do, only they are often cast outside to weather the cold or a storm owing to a misconception that the fur on their backs will insulate them from suffering.
Without proper shelter, food and water, these domesticated animals’ chances of survival in frigid temperatures are greatly decreased.
During this winter, please remember to always protect your pets from the frigid temperatures.

Due to shelters being at maximum capacity and waiting for rescues to pull, we currently will NOT be trapping and will NOT be taking in owner surrenders.
If you have “ Stray Cats “ outside your home and are feeding them, housing them or have them under or around your home and on your property , you need to have them fully vaccinated, recommend spay/ neuter (Sumner Spay and Neuter in Gallitan has low cost programs) and contained at your (the Owners) expense. If you have stray cats and you do not want them, you need to have them removed at owners expense. ALL animals within the city limits need to be contained or on a leash at all times. All animals shall be vaccinated at Owners or Property Owners expense. Any violation in the city ordinance or state code is subject to a citation and fine will apply. You can obtain a current copy of the City Ordinance online, at City Hall or from Animal Control.
Below you will find one of our current City Ordinances.
