The following positions are up for election: Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Legislative Director, Communications Director, and Member-at-Large.

Per our bylaws, the Chair, Vice-Chair, and two other officers must be individuals with disabilities as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA defines a disability as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. This includes individuals with a history of such an impairment and those perceived as having a disability.

Is everyone ready for the debate?

The Democratic Party of Oregon Disability Justice Caucus unequivocally denounces the terrorist attacks committed by Hamas. Terrorism is a grave violation of human rights and a threat to global peace and security. Such actions result in the loss of innocent lives, cause untold suffering to communities, and hinder the prospects for a just and lasting resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

We want to echo what President Biden stated so clearly in his earlier remarks:

We firmly believe in the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful negotiations as the means to address the complex and deeply rooted issues in the region. The use of violence and terrorism as a means to achieve political or ideological objectives is not only morally reprehensible but also counterproductive.

It is crucial for all parties involved to recognize the rights and aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians and work together to find a just and sustainable solution to their longstanding conflict. This can only be achieved through sincere, inclusive, and constructive dialogue, with the international community playing a supportive role in facilitating this process.

In the face of these tragic events, we extend our deepest condolences to the victims and their families and call for an immediate cessation of violence and a commitment to peaceful, diplomatic solutions. We stand in solidarity with all those who seek a more peaceful and prosperous future for the Middle East.

Again, as President Biden stated — we agree that "..this attack has brought to the surface painful memories and the scars left by a millennia of antisemitism and genocide of the Jewish people. So, in this moment, we must be crystal clear: We stand with Israel. We stand with Israel. And we will make sure Israel has what it needs to take care of its citizens, defend itself, and respond to this attack.
..Hamas does not stand for the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination. Its stated purpose is the annihilation of the State of Israel and the murder of Jewish people.

They use Palestinian civilians as human shields.

Hamas offers nothing but terror and bloodshed with no regard to who pays the price.

The loss of innocent life is heartbreaking. ...There is no justification for terrorism. There is no excuse."

We call on all caucuses and the Democratic Party of Oregon to join us in making a statement condemning these terrorist attacks and to extend condolences and empathy to all the victims, their families, and to all that are impacted by these evil acts.
