Happy Anniversary Stanley❣ Stanley was approximately a year and three months old when he found safe haven at Sanaga-Yong in October 2002. Having been held in captivity by a poacher, he suffered from dehydration and severely infected wounds from the rope that cruelly restrained him. 😢 Despite the trauma he had suffered, Stanley was immediately affectionate with his caregivers. He seemed to know he had found safety and love. ❤🐵

As an adult and prominent member of Jacky's group, he has not changed. He is still sweet, gentle, and lives every day to the fullest!

Alice, female age 26, is a Nigeria-Cameroon Chimpanzee (subspecies Pan troglodytes ellioti). Her subspecies is the rarest of all chimpanzees, found only in Cameroon and eastern Nigeria. Fewer than 6,000 remain in the wild.

Alice's story is tragically common: In June 2001, sanctuary staff helped authorities confiscate two-year-old Alice from a village about two hours from the sanctuary. She was tethered to the trunk of a tree and suffered from deep, infected wounds from the cord tied around her waist. The village people claimed that a hunter they didn’t know abandoned her, and they weren’t sure what to do with her.

She's lived in our largest group of chimpanzees for decades and is healthy, confident and forever safe.

Peanuts provide protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Our chimps love them and so do our human employees and volunteers!

This photo is evidence of a successful integration! Kolbi and fellow young rescue Tamara joined Kiki's group earlier this year and their presence has enriched the lives of six adult chimpanzees who now have spunky, fresh energy in their lives!

We can't thank you enough for making Giving Day for Apes special. 78 compassionate people donated to Sanaga-Yong’s Giving Day campaign, bringing our total to $6,407!

It is because of you that we can continue to provide food, veterinary treatment and compassionate care to baby chimpanzees who were rescued from the illegal wildlife trade and the pet trade.

These chimpanzees have nowhere else to turn - they depend on us for everything. Thank you for giving them better lives!

Donations are still accepted if you'd like to contribute!

Phew! Giving Day for Apes is over in just 10 minutes! A tremendous thank you to everyone who made space in their hearts for the chimpanzees of Sanaga-Yong.

Behind every happy, confident young chimpanzee swinging from the trees of Sanaga Yong is a team of dedicated caregivers who stepped in as surrogate parents to these orphaned youngsters.

There's ONE last prize on the table - the last donation of the night prize! This prize will be awarded to the organization that receives the LAST online donation of the event.

This is perfect for anyone who loves a clicker challenge and has $5 to spare. Your timely donation could win us extra prize money if it goes through SECONDS before 9pm PT/midnight ET!

This is your final chance to help us reach our goal on Giving Day for Apes so we can continue providing round-the-clock care to our youngest, most vulnerable residents.

We are so grateful for the 64 people who have donated for Giving Day for Apes so far! We are 53% to our goal and every dollar helps us reach $10k!

This year we are raising funds to support the care of our youngest and most vulnerable rescues. Will you join other supporters in helping us reach our goal?

These orphans, like Niete (pictured with caregiver Helene), need you.
