Welcome to May! It's getting warm out there- please keep safe while you enjoy the gorgeous sunshine, and...

Can you believe it? May is here. And fire season is right around the corner. May is . Time to get ready. Because really....wildfire knows no season. Let's take 2026 by the horns. We got this!

From cold rain to fresh snowfall or melting slush, here’s how to stay safe behind the wheel. ⛄⤵️

Keep warm, stay safe 🙂

Keep warm, stay safe 🙂

During severe winter weather, protect yourself when you go outdoors.

❄️Dress in layers. Wear several loose-fitting, lightweight clothing items instead of one heavy layer.

❄️Cover exposed skin. Our bodies prioritize keeping our organs warm, so it’s important to protect our hands and feet from the cold. Wear a hat that covers your ears and use a scarf to cover your face and mouth for extra protection for your lungs.

❄️Stay dry. Make sure your outer garments are waterproof or water-resistant. If you do get wet, get inside and change right away.

❄️Limit your time outside and know the signs of hypothermia: uncontrollable shivering, memory loss, disorientation, incoherence, slurred speech, drowsiness and apparent exhaustion. If body temperature drops below 95 degrees, seek immediate medical care.

Periods of heavy rainfall rates this week, including possibly during the Monday evening commute, may make for hazardous driving. If you encounter a flooded roadway, don't drive through the floodwaters. Most flood-related deaths occur in cars and are preventable - Find another route! Turn Around, Don't Drown!

Watch vs Warning

👀WATCH means conditions are favorable for a weather event that could have a big impact on our area.

What you should do: Make sure you're signed up for emergency alerts, check the weather before traveling or doing outdoor activities, and be prepared for the possibility of the weather occurring if there are things you can do ahead of time, like cleaning out gutters before a major rain or bringing in patio furniture before heavy winds.

🚨WARNING means the weather is either highly likely or already happening, and you should take action.

What you should do: Pay attention to news and weather alerts, and make sure your household is prepared to take action to protect yourselves.

Preparedness doesn’t have to break the bank! 💡

Getting your family ready for emergencies can start with low-cost or no-cost steps that make a big difference when it matters most.

Here are some budget-friendly ideas to get started:
✅ Talk about your family’s emergency plan — who to call, where to meet.
✅ Practice “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” and a quick home evacuation drill.
✅ Save important documents (IDs, insurance, contacts) in one safe place.
✅ Store tap water in clean containers — 1 gallon per person per day.
✅ Build your kit over time — add one extra item with each grocery trip.
✅ Sign up for OR-Alert to get emergency notifications in your area.
✅ Check on neighbors, especially those who may need extra help.

Being starts with small steps — and most of them are free! 🏡💪

Let’s keep Oregon — one simple action at a time.
