COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION REQUESTED!!Paulie will be making his way into Portland tomorrow morning. He will be leaving East Hampton around 8:30am, where he will walk straight down RT 66 into Portland. When he gets to Main Street, he will turn right and head towards Co1 Firehouse. We do anticipate that if he arrives at the right time he just might stop at the Brownstone School! We are aware that all of these plans are fluid and do change depending on how many people he stops and talks with along the way. He loves sharing his message. The community is invited and encouraged to come out and wave him on. If you can’t make it Friday afternoon ~ He is spending the night here in town and will be leaving Saturday morning around 8:30am from Company 1 Firehouse. Please come and show support anyway you can. Waving of an America flag 🇺🇸..A simple 👋🏻 wave or hand shake with a thank you goes a long way. Let’s show Paulie how special our town is!

🇺🇸 Friday afternoon and Saturday morning Paulie will be in Portland!🇺🇸

You may be familiar with Paulie’s Push, the effort of retired flight attendant to honor the ‘first, first responders’ of September 11 - the flight crews. He passed through this area in 2021 and 2024, pushing his airline beverage cart from Boston to Ground Zero both times along routes representing United Flight 175 and American Flight 11. (He also pushed from Washington-Dulles to the Pentagon for American 77, and Newark-Liberty to Shanksville for United 93).

In all, Paulie pushed his cart nearly 800 miles. He set out what he intended to do, completing all four flights. This year, to mark the 25th anniversary of the attacks, he’s pushing one more time. When his cart reaches Ground Zero on September 11 it will have surpassed 1,000 miles - and many of those final miles will have seen it pushed by people from the communities he’ll pass through.

What’s more, this year four additional airline beverage carts have been donated - one decorated for each of the four flights. In places where it’s safe, members of the community will be invited to push along with him. It’s an effort we’re calling Everyone’s Push.

On Friday, Paulie will begin the morning at Global Self Storage in East Hampton, pushing toward Portland, where he’ll end for the day. Members of the community will be invited to push with him for the last portion of his day’s journey toward the Portland Fire House.

In the past Paulie has pushed through Portland, but this will be his first time stopping here for the day. He’s looking forward to spending a little time here this time around, and to meeting folks from Portland. Can’t wait to see you Friday.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION REQUESTED FOR PAULIE’S PUSH ~ COMING BACK TO PORTLAND. On Friday, August 28th Paulie will be pushing his way from the East Hampton town line through our town traveling directly down RT 66. He will make his way all the way to Main Street where he will turn right and head straight for PFD Headquarters (Company 1 Firehouse). This will be his stop for the night. Saturday morning (August 29th) he will push from Co1 right over the Arrigoni Bridge to Middletown. On both Friday and Saturday, we encourage the town to come together to help support him on his journey. Anyone interested in helping Paulie push his way through our town please feel reach out to us directly. He has 4 additional beverage carts that can be pushed by members of the community. Each represents a different flight from 9/11. After all he is calling this year’s push “Everyone’s Push”. Details regarding times will be posted as they become available by event staff. Portland Fire Department Dive Team will be conducting a joint training operation with City of Middletown Professional Firefighters Local 1073 and South Fire District Firefighters IAFF Local 3918 dive teams tonight. No need to be alarmed.

Paulie will be coming to Portland CT again! It marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11. He will be making a stop this year at Portland Fire Department Headquarters at 7 Middlesex Avenue. Please stay tuned fore more details. All are invited.

**Official Press Release**

Last night at 9:18pm as crews were clearing out from PFD Station 1 following a water rescue that we assisted Middletown Fire with on the CT River, an active fire was noticed from fire headquarters. It appeared to be in the area of Evergreen Avenue. Upon further investigation, Deputy Chief Sweeney was first on scene within two minutes and called a working structure fire. Within minutes Chief Puida arrived and assumed command. Our first alarm assignment was brought in very quickly which includes 2 Engines from Middletown. Portland L1 was on scene two minutes after the call was initiated and Portland E1 was on scene 4 minutes from the time of the call. Crews made good headway on a difficult fire that had extended to the second floor as well as the attic. As a result of this fire one resident was transported to the hospital and one refused treatment. Two firefighters were also transported to the hospital for heat exhaustion and have since been released. Many mutual aid partners helped both on and off scene. Westfield Fire was brought into the scene for assistance. East Hampton Fire was dispatched out to assist on another call during our incident and then brought to the scene. South Fire District Truck 34 was called in to the scene. We also requested Rocky Hill firefighters with an engine to provide coverage for the town. Hunters ambulance as well as Middlesex Paramedics provided scene coverage throughout the incident. This was a very labor intensive fire and the high heat and humidity played a huge roll in hindering our efforts. The fire is under investigation by the Portland Fire Marshals office.
