Plastics: What’s Recyclable, What Becomes Trash — And Why

Whether you use communal bins or roll out your bins, recycling is an important part of being a renter or homeowner. It saves energy because the products being recycled usually require less processing to turn them into usable materials. However, knowing what is recyclable and what is trash is just as important. #recyclable #recycle #limitwaste #sustainability #energy #cep

Knowing what to recycle is confusing. Here's a look at the process, from store to recycling facility.

Water Heating Systems - Community Energy Project

Reducing your water usage, which also reduces the amount of energy needed to purify or heat it--is only part of the solution. Heating water costs the average American family about $400 to $600 a year. That’s the second largest utility expense after heating and cooling. For many homeowners, upgrading to a more efficient water heater can make sense, especially if it’s time for a replacement. #energyawareness #energy #water #wateruse #efficiency #cep

Air Sealing & Insulation - Community Energy Project

Ensure your home is well-insulated. Having a well-insulated home will reduce the amount of energy needed to heat or cool it. Check the insulation around your home, especially in your attic. If your home is not well-insulated, it will trap more heat in the summer, and lose heat in the winter--thus you spend more energy on heating and air conditioning. #energy #energyawareness #efficiency #healthyhome #cep

What You Should Know Sealing air leaks and properly insulating your home are two of the most effective things you can do to reduce heating and cooling costs and to increase home comfort. Sealing air leaks reduces the uncontrolled flow of air into and out of your home. Insulation reduces the transfer...

Nest Thermostat - Community Energy Project

One way to minimize energy use at home and be more efficient is to use a smart thermostat. They also have multiple sensors that provide a better overall reading of the temperature in your home and heat or cool your home more efficiently than regular thermostats, along with sending you reports about your energy use. #smartthermostat #cep #healthyhome #energyawareness #energy #efficiency

Heating and cooling are the biggest consumers of your home’s energy.  Your thermostat’s settings are responsible for almost HALF of your home’s total energy usage! In comparison, your water heater accounts for about 14-18%.  That being said, it’s important to take steps toward having a mor...

Thank you to The Community Energy Project and Comcast for joining us and hosting our annual Winter Weatherization Workshop. We learned so much about how to stay warmer and save energy this winter. The items we received in our kits are HIGH QUALITY and we were shown how to use them! This year, we also added a hot cocoa bar and Sarah from Comcast set up a photo booth where we took free family photos! And a BIG THANK YOU to our awesome residents, who always make these events a blast!
