Oregon CEDAW Coalition

Oregon CEDAW Coalition The Oregon CEDAW Coalition has the goal of implementing a gender equity resolution into law based on principles from the U.N. CEDAW Treaty, signed in 1979.

While we are not active presently, thank you so much for stopping by to learn this very important work! Please go to: http://citiesforcedaw.org/about-cedaw/ for current information and other resources. CEDAW stands for the Convention of the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women. What the Oregon CEDAW hopes to do, along with its members (listed below) is to support, sponsor, and

ultimately implement CEDAW as a State Bill, asking for intersectional gender gap analysis within governments and its agencies, create a task force to fill the voids left by discrepancies, and create a Commission on the Status of Woman in Oregon. So far, we have helped pass resolutions in support of CEDAW in the cities of Eugene and Ashland, have a city of Eugene Proclamation, and a State of Oregon Proclamation. If you would like to help or learn more, please feel free to contact us! Coalition Members: (As of 2017)

Here is a heart-wrenching example of how CEDAW can protect women....

“This case is a milestone for international human rights law. We hope that Spain will apply the other recommendations we made with regard to custody and visitation rights, the application of due diligence in domestic violence cases and the provision of mandatory training for judges and law enforcement officers,” said Yoko Hayashi, a member of CEDAW.

Experts of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) on Thursday said that a Spanish Supreme Court case set milestone in international human rights law. In its decisi...

Help fund and equal future, don’t support a misogynistic past

"You can cling to a status quo as it crumbles around you," Time's Up said. "Or you can demonstrate what happens when true leadership embraces the future."

Congrats to Hawai’i for becoming the first state to adopt CEDAW in ALL counties! This is amazing and means we are that much closer to implementing CEDAW at the state level, then at the national level. Shout out to all the people who made this happen!!!! Happy International Women’s Day from the Oregon CEDAW Coalition! ✨💪✨

“International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.”

"Most victims were women and children, and of the women, more than 80 percent were killed by their husband or boyfriend."

We were just discussing this bill in the Oregon Women's Equity Coalition member meeting this morning - the impact is huge. Women and children of all genders, have experienced a disproportionate amount of negative impact due to gun violence and any lacking policy around gun safety.

Members of the Oregon House of Representatives passed legislation Thursday that would expand the number of people banned from owning guns because of domestic violence or stalking convictions.
