Recognizing the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial tribute, our flag will be at half staff on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in honor of our fallen brothers and sisters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland stands as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices and the unwavering dedication of those who risk everything to protect others. Lowering the flag to half-staff on May 3 is a gesture of respect and remembrance.

Firefighters embody courage and selflessness, and it is fitting that their memory is preserved in such a meaningful way in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Every name engraved on those plaques represents a story of service and sacrifice that should never be forgotten.

During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (April 12 to 18), we recognize the dedicated professionals who answer 9-1-1 calls and coordinate lifesaving responses every hour of every day. They are the backbone of our nation’s emergency response system.

Thank you to our own Portland Police Department Dispatchers who do an exceptional job every single day!

Portland Fire Department recently conducted their annual Live Fire Training 🔥and also worked on Confined Space and Trench Rescue 🚨training at the National First Responder Training Complex in Corpus Christi. It was a full two days of rotating all fire personnel through training exercises that keep their skills sharp and at the ready. There was a lot of work put into these exercises, and we are proud of the dedication and commitment shown by each of these guys to train so well. 🚒

We want everyone to stay safe and warm and consider these safety reminders.

As colder temperatures approach, now is the time to think about heating safety at home. 🕯️

Space heaters and other warming tools can be helpful—but only when used properly.

✔️ Keep heaters at least 3 feet from anything that can burn
✔️ Plug only one heat-producing appliance into an outlet
✔️ Never leave heaters unattended
✔️ Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly

Preparation now can help keep everyone safe!
