IMPORTANT!!!! IBEW Local 125 members at Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative remain on strike! Since Monday, workers at the member-owned electrical utility serving nearly 60,000 residents in Baker, Grant, Harney, and Union counties, have been on strike to protest OTEC’s violations of federal labor law, including the illegal firing of 24-year La Grande lineman Tom Higgins, and to secure a fair labor contract.
In Wednesday press release, Local 125 said OTEC has contracted with Minnesota-based Strom Engineering, a firm that specializes in strikebreaking, to bring workers from across the country to replace IBEW Local 125 members who walked off the job to protest unfair labor practices and OTEC’s failure to bargain a fair contract. These workers appear to have been lured to Eastern Oregon by Strom and OTEC from other parts of the country on promises of very high pay, with apparently little verification of the workers’ skills or safety certifications.
PLEASE Take Action to Support Local 125:
When we stand together to support workers on strike, we can help ensure the strike is both short and successful. When any worker is treated unfairly or without the dignity and respect they deserve at work, it’s up to all of us to fight for justice.
Please take a minute to send a letter to the OTEC Board of Directors in support of IBEW Local 125 at the link below!
