Jed is the founder and principal of Stone’s Throw Consulting, a public relations and consulting firm in Portland. For nearly 8 years, Jed has immersed himself in several of Portland’s biggest issues, including the Maine State Pier redevelopment effort and the effort to preserve our public library’s Monument Square location. He continues to work on many other issues including renewable energy, ener
gy efficiency and smart growth, both here in Portland and statewide. Most recently he led the campaign to approve the City Charter recommendations to create the elected mayor position. In an inspiring turn of events, our vibrant City voted in 2010 to approve the new charter and once again, Portland lives up to it’s signature motto - Resurgam! We are reviving ourselves once again, this is an exciting time. It is a time for new faces, new ideas, new approaches, new energy, and a new determination to get things done and solve problems. In a nutshell, here’s what I intend to accomplish:
• Make Portland known to the world. We know we can attract tourists but we must attract business as well. Our future depends on skilled, entrepreneurial individuals who have new ideas that flourish and a city government that fosters creativity.
• Develop efficient, creative proposals to fund and execute City services.
• Consolidate administrative costs by working regionally and proactively with other municipal agencies and governments.
• Streamline our business and development process at the City level.
• Focus on the creative economy, smart growth, and sustainable economic development. Portland can and must be a City where creative, entrepreneurial people can live and work, raise a family, start a business, and contribute to a vibrant community. Let’s get to work!
