🌲U.S. Forest Service - Wallowa Whitman National Forest🌲

The McCully Fire is burning 22 miles southwest of Baker City, Oregon in the Elk Horn Ridge area. The Elkhorn Crest Trail is impacted.

Crews are taking advantage of moderate weather conditions as they work to suppress the fire, and firefighters are constructing containment lines with the support of heavy equipment.

A low pressure weather system could bring dry lightning to the central Washington Cascades.

Very dry fuels with lightning increase the risk of fire potential. Resources are prepositioned across the region for anticipated initial attack.

A new Pacific Northwest🚩 Fuels and Fire Behavior Advisory🚩 has been issued by NWCC Predictive Services in conjunction with state and federal partners effective August 25, 2026.

Subject: Ongoing drought has kept live and dead fuels critically dry across the Northwest, supporting aggressive fire behavior even without strong alignment of fuels, weather, or topography. Increased fire activity has been observed across most of the region.

Summary:
• Low snowpack across Oregon and Washington has intensified ongoing drought, leaving fuels critically dry.
• Live fuels are completely or mostly cured and significantly contributing to increased fire behavior.
• Active fire behavior with extended burn periods is occurring, with continuous rangeland fuels supporting rapid spread when aligned with winds.
• Fires are exhibiting extreme resistance to control and extinguishment, requiring substantial ground and aerial resource commitments for long duration.

Paradise, Hagen and Horse Ridge Fire Information
🌲U.S. Forest Service - Umatilla National Forest🌲

The Hagen Fire is burning in the Umatilla National Forest about 26 miles east of Pendleton, Oregon. The fire began on July 16, 2026, following a lightning storm that moved through the area.

Firefighters have been building a shaded fuel break along Forest Service Road 31 on the Hagen Fire to help protect nearby communities and give firefighters a safer place to work. Dense grass and brush can help a wildfire spread quickly. By removing some of that vegetation and keeping larger trees in place, crews can slow fire spread, reduce fire intensity and improve access for firefighters and residents during emergency operations.

Complex incident management teams (CIMTs) usually manage large wildfires, but they can also respond to initial attacks and emerging incidents nearby. For example, the CIMT on the Little Giant Fire has supported multiple new starts in the area with help from cooperating agencies and aviation resources.

🚫 NO DRONE ZONES 🚫

The Oregon Department of Emergency Management and Oregon Department of Aviation urge all drone operators: Never fly drones over or near active wildfires. 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗹𝘆, 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁.

When a drone is spotted, life‑saving aircraft must stop operations—putting firefighters and communities at risk.

The consequences are serious:
💸 Up to $75,000 in civil fines
⛓️ Up to 12 months in federal prison
📵 Confiscation of equipment
🛑 Permanent revocation of pilot certificates

Before you fly, always check Temporary Flight Restrictions. If you see an unauthorized drone near a wildfire, call 9‑1‑1. More guidance: oregon.gov/aviation

Firefighters are engaged in aggressive ⚒ initial attack, while also responding to increased activity on existing large fires.

With historically dry conditions, hot🌡 temperatures, gusty winds and the potential for lightning, there is a greater risk of significant fires heading into the weekend.
