Looking for a good YA page-turner to give to this year’s Diversity & Inclusion Book Drive? Consider donating a copy of our Book of the Week, "A Blade So Black" by L.L. McKinney!

The first novel in McKinney’s Nightmare-Verse series, "A Blade So Black" is an irresistible urban fantasy retelling of "Alice in Wonderland". The story centers around Black teenager Alice Kingston, who, after the death of her father, becomes a guardian of the portal between Atlanta and Wonderland. Praised by Booklist for “breathing new life and fierce empowerment into Carroll’s classic,” this imaginative Afrofuturist fantasy novel resonates with readers of all ages.

🎶 It's DAF Day, DAF Day! 🎶

We are so excited to be part of DAF Day, a nationwide day of philanthropy that encourages giving through donor-advised funds!

Donor-advised funds (DAFs) are the fastest-growing charitable giving vehicle in the U.S. Last year, 42% of millennials who made a charitable contribution, donated through a DAF and, on average, their donations were larger compared to older DAF donors.

So, if you're in your philanthropy era ... and you know all the original words to this song, it may be the perfect time to set up a DAF of your own!

Head to boysandgirlsaid.org/legacyplanning to learn more about DAFs and to designate Boys & Girls Aid as a recipient in yours today!

⠀
On Thursday, October 8, Boys & Girls Aid is joining thousands of nonprofits for DAF Day , a national day of giving through donor-advised funds. To join in, simply designate Boys & Girls Aid as a recipient in your DAF.⠀

Just a little over one year ago, 24 year old Tyler was living out of his van. What motivated him to seek out support wasn’t his own comfort, but the well-being of his dog Rex.

"I wanted to do it for him, honestly," Tyler shares. "I was really just thinking, 'He shouldn't be out here,’ you know? I wanted to make my life better for him."

With the help of Boys & Girls Aid, Tyler and Rex were able to move in to a quality, affordable one-bedroom townhouse apartment, complete with an in-unit washer and dryer. Now, empowered by the stability of a place to call home, Tyler has been taking major steps towards his long-term goals.

"The Boys & Girls Aid program has definitely given me a higher work ethic," Tyler says. "I can do a lot more than I could when I was living in the van, because I don't have to figure out how to take care of the basic stuff."

Visit https://www.boysandgirlsaid.org/stories/2026/shelterandhousingmonthtyler to read Tyler’s full story, and learn more about how your support makes it possible for young people experiencing homelessness to transition into safe, stable housing.

Pour yourself a welcoming glass of Moroccan Mint tea and settle in for a special Shelter & Housing Month episode of Tea Time with Margaret, our new series exploring how you can make an impact with Boys & Girls Aid.

In this episode, Margaret and Angie sit down with Drew Williamson, Senior Director of Shelter & Housing services at Boys & Girls Aid, to explore how monetary and material donations help support the young people in our programs who are experiencing homelessness and transitioning into stable housing.
