Posts or comments that are deemed to be in poor taste and/or contain threats, hate speech, personal attacks, or defamation will not be tolerated, and may be hidden or deleted without warning. Repeat violators of this policy may be banned at the discretion of OAASIS’ staff. Read: We all play a role in creating safe and healthy communities and that means calling out racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, xenophobia and dismantling ALL systems of oppression that are at the root of sexual violence. Because of this understanding of intersecting and connecting forms of oppression, we use an intersectional lens in our work to address child sex abuse. If you're not familiar with intersectionality, this tool-kit from our colleagues at CALCASA is a terrific introduction:

Feeling very nostalgic and incredibly grateful over here this morning as I learn of Ms. Gloria Steinem’s passing.

The gratitude for the impacts of her work on my life runs deep.

It was thru her foundation, The Ms. Foundation for Women, that OAASIS Oregon, a non profit org I co-founded 2 years earlier, received a three year grant to do the difficult and rewarding work of trying to build a movement to end child s*xual abuse.

It was thru her foundation that we realized there was a whole national MOVEMENT of folks already doing this work. In fact, there were pioneers in the field that were part of a cohort of freaking rock stars that we were SO fortunate to learn from and with.

It was thru her foundation that I got the wild chance of meeting, hugging, and thanking my childhood hero, Marlo Thomas, who’s 1970’s show “Free to Be You and Me”, somehow made me feel like I mattered. 🥹
RIP Ms. Steinem. ~ Post from Kristi Kernal-Phillips, Co-Founder of OAASIS

This is true of kids, of many survivors, and of our inner kids who need us to reparent and show up for them. ❤️⬇️

One of our FAVORITE places to be is in the company of folks doing violence prevention work. Here with the good folks of at their week long training program. Our Co-Director Mel Phillips and our colleagues Aron Klein and Lindsay Spaulding with are speaking about engaging men in prevention work. “We need to learn as men how to be preventionist vs. protectionists. Check out SATF’s free online resource, “Finding Your Role in the Work of Prevention” workbook.
