Join us for a night of healthcare topic discussions with Maine's Second Congressional District Candidates, Wednesday, Sept 16th, 6:00-7:30 PM. Sea Dog Brewing, Bangor.

Democratic candidate Matt Dunlap, former legislator and Secretary of State and current State Auditor has confirmed his participation. Republican candidate, Paul LePage, former two-term Governor of Maine, has been invited.

Please arrive promptly at 6 pm. We will be in one of the Sea Dog’s function rooms and will have a cash bar and appetizers available. We will invite each candidate for consecutive, separate sessions. Depending on availability, we will ask one candidate to join us from 6:15 pm to 6:45 pm and the second candidate to join us from 7 pm to 7:30 pm.

Check out this great article! Emergency Nursing Journal. It does a great job objectively comparing the educational differences between PA, NP and DO/MD training as well as offering insights on inter-professional dynamics.
Excerpt: “A critical flaw in many studies cited by the ACEP, AAEM, AMA, and similar organizations is the inappropriate comparison of newly credentialed APPs to experienced, board-certified emergency physicians (Chekijian et al., 2021). This methodologic oversight skews outcomes and perpetuates a narrative that APPs are inherently less competent for the duration of their career remaining at new graduate level competency despite any fellowship, certifications, or years of clinical experience. Physicians are afforded credit for their three or 4 years of residency, granting them expert in the field status that is not even partially acknowledged for APPs of similar or greater years practicing in the ED.

When comparing APPs with EM residents with similar years of clinical exposure, studies show comparable outcomes with supervised visits with regard to testing, length of stay, and admission rates (Pitts et al., 2014). A more accurate approach would involve stratifying comparisons by experience level, clinical exposure, and procedural volume for APPs, residents, and attending physicians. “
