Reserve Commander Robert Ball and Reserve Officer Patrick Sieng are working with State Representative Brent Barton on a bill to extend scholarship benefits to dependents of reserve officers and volunteer firefighters killed or injured in the line of duty. http://www.oregonlive.com/oregon-city/index.ssf/2013/11/oregon_city_representative_wan.html

Originally, police officer benefits were tied to PERS, which excluded volunteer officers. A 2011 bill remedied much of that, but there are some benefits still missing, such as scholarships for the children of police officers who died.
