25 April. Can you believe the weather? 1. Pain prep on the weather deck. 2. Peek a boo, I see you. 3. A thin deck takes a lot of painting. 4. Running rust in the NW is a continual problem. 5. 4 April Handy Billy fire pump work. 1. Steve & John checking Ramp room port side for original location. Riser for water is still there. 2. mounting base. 3. grinding to bare steel to weld. 4. Welding. 5. Cleanup is part of the job. 6. painting 7. Restored pump arrives. 8. Final assembly 9. In place, next to the hatch for the Bosun locker. Pipe to left is the original water siphon. This is a 60 gallon pump and could be used to fight fires or transfer fuel from tank to tank. Gasoline for the fire pumps is stored on a quick jettison stand on the fantail.

Machida Gospel Assembly visitors last week. An easy gangway coming in. Later, the tide can make it steeper when going ashore. 1-5. Arrival 6,7. Berthing for troops 4 high 8,9 Officers Wardroom mess-real plates versus metal trays for crew and C rations for troops. 10-12 20 mm anti aircraft display in messing and clipping room. 13, 14 at the Helm, awaiting orders from the Officer of the Deck. The handle is the actual steering device. 15, 16 20 mm gun tub topside where the actual anti aircraft battles took place. Note the 1/2" steel plate for protection. 17. Donated Medical Corps book for on board Medical Corpsman. 5. Troop 4 tank drying out after patching leak from rubbing logs. 6.
