Let 'Em Play Foundation The F. Howard Mayo - Let ‘Em Play Foundation was created in 2012 by the Portland Basketball Officials

The Let ‘Em Play Foundation was created in 2012 by the Portland Basketball Officials Association (PBOA) to honor the 36 year career of then commissioner Howard Mayo by providing scholarships that pay the participation fees for students playing High School basketball at those schools serviced by the PBOA who otherwise might not be able to participate. Since it’s inception, the funds for the foundat

ion have come mostly from members of the PBOA. In 2015, the Let ‘Em Play Foundation became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization separate from the PBOA with the same original goal of providing financial help to student athletes in order to “Let ‘Em Play!”

🏀 Real Stories. Real Support.
At Lincoln High School, two student-athletes are chasing their dreams—despite facing challenges far beyond the basketball court.

🧑‍🎓 One student, living with his older brother, works late nights to help out at home. We’re helping him focus on what matters most—school, growth, and just being a kid.

🚍 Another rides public transportation two hours each way just to attend class and practice. His commitment is unmatched.

💥 Through the Let 'Em Play Foundation, we were able to cover their basketball fees, equipment, and expenses—removing the barriers that could’ve kept them off the court.

💌 The thank you card from their team says it all. Your support makes this possible.

Since our inception, we have provided over $16,000 to more than
100 student-athletes from 25 schools. The foundation funds have
helped high school athletes participate in their basketball programs,
when then may not have otherwise been able to, due to family
financial difficulties.

“Without officials, it’s just recess.” - F. Howard Mayo

In 2012, the PBOA chose to honor Howard’s service to high school basketball by establishing the Let ’Em Play Scholarship Fund. That eventually grew and became the Let ‘Em Play Scholarship Foundation that provides scholarships to pay the participation fees that allow student athletes to participate in high school basketball.
