Last Saturday, we brought the community together for a fun-filled Play Street & Plaza Activation in partnership with PBOT and Dairy Queen!

We transformed the parking lot into a welcoming community space where families could play, connect, and learn about transportation safety while activating the plaza space for community use.

A huge thank-you to PBOT for providing the trailer and supporting the event, and to Dairy Queen for letting us use their parking lot and providing ice cream for our community! 🍦

We’re grateful to our partners, volunteers, and everyone who came out and helped make the space come alive. We look forward to creating more opportunities to activate public spaces and bring our community together!

Join us for Transit Matters: Placemaking, Safety & Economic Vitality in East Portland, a half-day conference bringing together community members, public agencies, advocates, youth, and local leaders to explore how transportation investments can strengthen our neighborhoods.

This conference will feature inspiring conversations, practical ideas, and three concurrent breakout sessions, allowing attendees to choose the topics that matter most to them. From improving public safety and creating vibrant public spaces to fostering economic vitality in East Portland and advancing equitable transportation, there will be something for everyone.

We are also honored to welcome JT Flowers as our keynote speaker, who will share insights on creating stronger, more connected communities.

On July 18, Noah, one of our TESYA participants, led a workshop on pedestrian safety and driver safety for members of the Somali community. Participants learned about pedestrian safety laws, pedestrians’ rights and responsibilities, safe walking practices, and Oregon traffic laws for drivers. The workshop also covered drivers’ responsibilities in helping keep everyone on the road safe and encouraged participants to practice safe behaviors whether they are walking or driving.

A special thank you to Somalia Oregon Service Center and the Oregon Somali Community Development Center for partnering with us to make this workshop possible. We appreciate your collaboration and commitment to promoting transportation safety within the community.
