This National Senior Citizens Day, we’d like to take a moment to recognize the older adults whose experience, care, and perspective have shaped so much of the world around us. Their contributions continue to strengthen the places we call home, and supporting them as they age is part of building a stronger community for everyone.

For us, that means creating more places where older folks can gather, share a meal, access support, and stay connected. Through Together at the Table, our new Eastside Resource Center will bring more of those opportunities to Portland’s eastside.

We’re nearing the finish line. Your support can help us build what comes next, with more opportunities to connect, find care, and feel a sense of belonging.

When we think about wellness, things like movement, nutrition, and physical health often come to mind. But wellness can also look like a shared laugh, a familiar face, or a meaningful conversation.

With 1 in 4 older adults experiencing isolation, regular social interaction can play an important role in helping folks feel supported, engaged, and less alone.

At Meals on Wheels People, a meal can be the beginning of something bigger. A delivery can bring a friendly conversation to the doorstep. A dining center can offer a place to gather. A phone call can remind someone that they’re thought of.

As the need for community grows, simply showing up for one another matters more than ever. This National Wellness month, be the reason an older neighbor feels seen, supported, and cared for: mowp.org/volunteer

For many older neighbors, the budget runs out before the month does. When basic costs outpace a fixed income, food is often one of the first things they’re forced to cut back on.

That gap is the breaking point we’re working to prevent.

Our weekly meal deliveries and dining centers help keep nutritious food within reach, so older neighbors can stay nourished, connected, and supported when budgets are stretched thin.

You can help bridge the gap at mowp.org/donate.

Too hot inside. Too smoky outside. When heat and poor air quality overlap, the risks can add up — especially for older adults.

Summer is here, and so are higher temperatures.

In our service area, central A/C isn’t always a given. For many older neighbors, staying comfortable at home during heat waves can become yet another challenge.

We’re preparing now by collecting fans and portable AC units for neighbors who need them, and keeping our dining centers ready as welcoming places to gather when the weather gets hotter.

Fan and AC unit donations can be dropped off at any of our dining centers Monday–Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please note that we’re unable to accept window units.

Warmer days are on the way. Help us prepare now: mowp.org/donate

There are many ways to contribute to Meals on Wheels People. Check out our various options below, or simply donate now.

As we mark 250 years of this country’s story, we’re reflecting on the people who have helped make our community possible, generation after generation.

Our older neighbors are part of that living history — in the families they’ve nurtured, the meals they’ve shared, and the communities they continue to strengthen.

This Fourth of July, we’re wishing our community a safe holiday, with moments of connection, care, and joy.
