Meet Anjanet. Anjanet works at local 737 as an Organizing Business Representative. As an Organizing Business Representative, she does various community outreach events, as well as internal organizing. Anjanet is going on 11 years LiUNA. We asked her why she joined LiUNA, and she had this to say, "I joined because I wanted a change in my life. I was newly in my sobriety. I was tired of going in and out of jail. I was on public assistance, sharing a bunk bed with my 3 kids. I wanted a career, not just a job, and benefits for my children." We asked why she is passionate about being a LiUNA member. She said, "I love that the Union accepted me, flaws and all. Even though I had a past, the Union saw the future in me. I love that through my Union wage, I was able to buy my first home after only being in the Union for 3 years." When we say Anjanet has Union pride in her family, it is no lie. She is a 3rd generation Laborer. All of her uncles and male cousins are in Seattle Local 242. Most of them joined right out of high school. After graduating high school this year, her son just joined the apprenticeship making him a 4th generation LiUNA member. The advice she would give someone thinking about joining the Union is, “Join early! Invest in yourself, contributing to the 401k that the local offers. I recommend you get to know your contract and know about all the benefits you get from being a LiUNA member. Get to know what 80 and out means and understand the value of it. Not all trades have it.” When Anjanet is not working she spends time with her family, whether at one of her kid's sporting events or traveling with the family.
