Presumpscot School

Presumpscot School Presumpscot School is an Expeditionary Learning school located in Portland, Maine.

Learning occurs through grade-level expeditions (in-depth studies of a topic or theme) that are aligned with the Common Core and Maine State Standards. The fundamental idea behind Expeditionary Learning is that students learn more by experiencing the world than by sitting in a classroom listening to a teacher talk about it. During expeditions students are involved in in-depth investigations of a t

opic that engages them in the world around them with authentic projects, fieldwork and service-learning projects.

ISO a dozen or so resusable (durable) bags. I am gathering up some summer supplies for some families and I could use about 10-12 reusable shopping bags (like the shaws or hannaford versions) to fill up. Feel free to drop off to Mo, or leave in my office (Caron's). Thank you!

Our last and final group of Student Leaders / MCs have begun their table reads. They are practicing their script, finding places to add humor and making sure no one gets sick by Friday. It’s a packed community meeting with a lot of wonderful information to share and celebration to be felt.

Friday 2:00-3:15! All are welcome!

5 years ago I started implementing Kind Mind circles at our school. Over time, with practice and internalizing this rhythm … We’ve turned it into a club where older students now run kind mind circles to younger classrooms. Full circle moment this afternoon 🔅These 3rd, 4th and 5th graders nailed it (so much so that I may not have a job next year 😂). Loved seeing this unfold.

Thank you, FTO (Family Teacher Presumpscot Family Teacher Organization), for all of the love and joy you brought to our community this week. From the goodie bags, to the lunches, to the raffle tickets, every bit of it was appreciated during a month that can feel very long.

I cannot tell you how many times I heard staff members say, “This is our favorite week.” I watched people get excited about nice pens, myself included, and dig through goodie bags searching for chocolates after our 4th grade 5 interview. It was hilarious watching several people rush to the office looking for their bags so they could go back and do another interview.

I sat in the lunchroom as staff devoured delicious sandwiches and yelped with surprise when they opened the fridge to find it stocked with so many drinks that I could barely find my own lunch. The breakfast was amazing, and of course, Fawn’s coffee never disappoints. I truly think it is the best coffee in Portland.

And of course, thank you to all of the families who own businesses and donated to our raffle. Ashley and I even put our tickets in for Mo, who never enters raffles, and she won! You made so many people happy. One of our recess aides might be grilling tonight because of the grill he won, and I know a teacher who is thrilled to have received a gift card to Réve. And while I would have loved the gift card to The Other Side Diner, I am happy knowing someone else will get to enjoy their amazing hash browns.

I guess my point is this: FTO, you absolutely rocked our world this week. I know how much time, energy, and care goes into all of this and into every event you lead.

From the absolute bottom of my heart, thank you.
