Not all solicitors and door-to-door contractors are visiting your home with honest intentions. Unfortunately, some people may use these opportunities to take advantage of storm damage situations.

Since Monday's hail storm, there have been a number of different companies speaking with home owners about hail damage and replacement of their roof.

We want to remind residents that the City of Portland requires all solicitors to have a valid solicitation permit (requiring a minor background check), regardless of whether they are selling a service or simply gathering information.

If someone comes to your door:
⌂ Ask to see their city-issued permit
⌂ Do not feel pressured to answer questions or agree to anything on the spot
⌂Be cautious about sharing personal or property information

If a solicitor cannot provide a permit or makes you feel uncomfortable, please contact the police department so we can follow up.

Heads up, folks—Mother Nature is doing her thing again. 🌧️

You may have noticed some localized flooding in the downtown area and our parks. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and National Weather Service (NWS), the Grand River is expected to rise another half foot or so before it starts to recede.

While this isn’t unusual for this time of year, it’s a good reminder to stay aware and use a little extra caution:

🚧 Avoid flooded areas – Even shallow water can be deeper (and moving faster) than it looks.
🚗 Turn around, don’t drown – Never drive through water covering the road.
🚶 Use caution on trails and sidewalks – Parks and river paths may be slippery or washed out.
🐾 Keep an eye on kids and pets – Fast-moving water and debris can be dangerous.
🚫 Respect barricades and closures
