High winds expected this evening into tomorrow morning! Now is the time to prepare for power outages and secure outdoor equipment.

You may have heard about the snow, but another hazard tonight into Saturday will be strong easterly wind gusts. Along the coast and inland to the I-93 corridor winds may gust up to 50 mph. Now that trees have leafed out, power outages will be possible. If you have outdoor celebrations planned this weekend, now is the time to make sure the equipment is secured.

We had a great turnout at our ARES meeting tonight! Thank you Dave KC1UIX for taking the photograph.

We planned out our training calendar, reviewed the logistics of some upcoming events including Westbrook Together Days and summer Field Day, and talked about some equipment upgrades that are needed.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection has issued an air quality advisory in our area for today, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, for elevated ozone levels.

At elevated ozone levels, children, older adults, those who work outdoors, and individuals suffering from respiratory or heart diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, or COPD can experience reduced lung function and irritation. In addition, healthy adults who exert themselves outdoors may also notice these health effects. Affected individuals may notice symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath, throat irritation, and/or experience mild chest pain.

Some actions you can take to protect your health during such periods include:
- Avoid strenuous outdoor activity
- Close windows and circulate indoor air with a fan or air conditioner
- If you have asthma, keep your quick-relief medications and action plan handy
