🐾 MAPLE HAS BEEN ON THE MOVE! 💙
K9 Maple spent the last few days visiting some of the local department stores and meeting members of our community! 🐕‍🦺
As Portland PD’s Electronic Storage Detection K9, Maple has an important job helping investigators locate hidden electronic devices—but community outreach is a pretty important part of her job, too. 💻📱🐾
Beginning last week and in the future, it will be all about getting out, making new friends, getting some pets (obviously), and introducing Maple to the businesses and community she serves. In addition, Maple will also be available for her ESD duties.
If you see Maple and her handler out around town, be sure to say hello! 👋🐾

PORTLAND PD HAS A NEW 4-LEGGED DETECTIVE - K-9 MAPLE! We're excited for you to meet her, Portland! Maple is a 16 month old Yellow Labrador Retriever with a very special talent- she's an Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) K-9. With her incredible nose, Maple is trained to sniff out electronic devices such as cell phones, USB drives, SD cards and other digital media that could contain critical evidence. She'll be putting those skills to use alongside our Digital Forensics and Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Investigations. Maple also has another important job assisting with Children's Advocacy Center interviews. where a friendly face and wagging tail can provide a little extra comfort to children during some very difficult moments. Maple's partner is Portland Police Detective Hardin, a 12 year certified Digital Forensics Investigator and member of the ICAC Task Force. Together, these two are ready to make an impressive team. You'll also see Maple out at our schools and during community events. Don't be surprised if Portland's newest K-9 Detective quickly becomes its most popular one! Welcome to the PPD family, K-9 Maple!

The addition of Maple was made possible through the National Computer Forensic Institute (NCFI) and Jordan Detection K-9. We're incredibly grateful for their support, along with Chief Mark Cory and the City of Portland, in bringing this valuable resource to our department and community.

Portland Texas Animal Care Services went out to the Sports Complex yesterday but was unable to locate this big boy. As the evening went on, he returned to the Sports Complex, and this morning he was officially picked up and brought safely to the shelter.

He is now safe and sound. If this handsome big boy belongs to you, please contact the Portland Texas Animal Care Services as soon as possible at (361) 777-4444.

The City of Portland Police Department, in partnership with the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office, executed a narcotics search warrant resulting in multiple arrests. This investigation remains ongoing.

RBFCU, House of Rock, and ROCK 92/7 wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to Sergeant Laughlin who puts his heart into serving our community! For the last 11 years he has been the School Resource Officer at Gregory-Portland ISD, proving that mentorship is just as important as protection. After almost 27 years of service with the Gregory Portland Police Dept, his legacy isn't just in his service it’s in the students who are graduating today because he told them they could when they believed they couldn't.

Telecommunicator Showcase: Allison Rodriguez. Allison is the newest member of our team, coming to Portland PD in November 2025. She brings 13 years of experience from Kingsville PD. She has been a wonderful addition to our group, adding her cheerful and positive attitude. Allison stays busy with a teenage daughter and lots of fun activities. We look forward to many more years working alongside her!

Telecommunicator Showcase: Hallie Harrison. Hallie began her career at Portland PD in June 2024. She came to us with previous dispatch experience from Oklahoma and Colorado. She came all this way to be with her fiance, now husband. Hallie will be moving back to Colorado soon and we're sure going to miss her. She says she'll miss us too, but not the heat and mosquitos. Such a genuinely sweet and kind person! We wish the newlyweds all the best in their life together in a much cooler, non-mosquito infested area of the country.
