Amazing work coming out of JEDISO. Our own local Economic Development Office and SOPA have leveraged funds to help local businesses build out infrastructure and grow jobs.

SOUTHERN OHIO'S BILLION DOLLAR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BRAND

Since its founding in 2013 the the JEDISO partner counties of Jackson, Pike, Ross, and Scioto, in partnership with Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth, have collaborated to secure over $1 billion in economic development investment.

The combined economic development projects in the four JEDISO counties have created over 2,700 new jobs and retained over 13,000.

Stats on new 2023/24 Small Business Grant Program

6 of 7 grants completed or in process/planning.

To date once completed the program will have supported:

100 new jobs, 23 jobs retained.
4 of 7 Businesses are new.
Owner investment to date in excess of $4 million.

Cost per job to program
$220,000/123 = $1789.00 per job.

Nearly 1000 jobs added in Scioto County since Nov 22’. Record low unemployment at 3.9% in Nov 23’. Our economic development engine is revving up!

Note: Large spike in 2020 (13.4%) was the COVID shutdown. Over 4000 were out of work at that time. Our economy was resilient and essential and we got back to work quickly! Still not as bad as our worst days in Jan. 1992 (15.4%) Jan. 2010 (15.9%).

Scioto County Economic Development presented a $50,000 Small Business Revitalization Grant to EZ Dumps It LLC, a dumpster rental and waste removal company, to purchase more equipment and add additional jobs. Robert Horton, Economic Development Director, presented the check to James Nance of EZ Dumps It.

The Small Business Revitalization Grant has helped create and retain many jobs, and bring vital investment into our community.

Scioto County Economic Development recently presented a Small Business Revitalization Grant to Keeney’s Kitchen valued at $30,000 to purchase an additional delivery van and expand their business northward toward Columbus expanding jobs here to service their new accounts. Robert Horton, Scioto County Economic Development Director, presents the check to Matt Keeney.

Keeney’s Kitchen is expanding and growing right here in Scioto County!!

Main Street Portsmouth in Bloom won best Mural Program and also won in their population category.

Portsmouth is the county seat for Scioto County and Main Street has helped make the downtown beautiful.

Congratulations to Infra-Metals for 10 years operating your New Boston, OH Division. Right here in Scioto County. Infra-Metals operates a 200,000 sq. ft. facility with truck, rail, and Ohio River Barge access.

We celebrated the ribbon cutting at the spec building at the SOAR Business Park yesterday. Benestar Brands is the tenant and they will be producing tortilla chips at the facility.
