Today is Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day, and we're honoring the dedicated men and women who selflessly serve their communities.

Volunteer firefighters respond to emergencies at all hours, train year-round, and sacrifice time with their families to help others when they're needed most.

To every volunteer firefighter across the country: thank you for your courage, your commitment, and everything you do to keep your communities safe.

While we know that calling 911 is not on anyone's mind as much as it is on ours - we are taking this Monday to talk about some important pointers to consider if calling 911.

Of course, never let these preparations delay calling 911 in the event of an emergency 📞

Additional tips:
- If your address consists of a letter, such as a unit or separate residence, be sure your drive is visible and identifiable. Be sure to label long or shared driveways as it could save time in the event of an emergency.
- If you have a lockbox code or a hidden key (and cannot open the door for EMS) be sure to share that information with the dispatcher.
- If there are multiple structures located at the given address, try to provide a description of your location such as, "yellow house with a red roof near the road" 🏡
- While our crews love all the pups and cats out there, crews may be delayed accessing you or a loved one if there is a threat of a bite or attack, so while it may take a second, please try to put Air Bud in a safe place if he/she doesn't love strangers 🐾

In the event of an emergency, try to stay as calm as possible and provide all the important information that you can. Be sure to answer all questions and follow all instructions.
