⚠ FORECAST UPDATE (6/22) - The whole region is under a FLOOD WATCH today, but it's really one zone that's close/south of I-64 in WV that's under-the-gun right now for potential "Flash" flooding👇

As we get further into the afternoon, you may even notice breaks of sunshine elbowing in following the passage of any downpours to the east, but I wouldn't let your guard down yet. We're in a moisture-rich / unstable environment such that any extra heating provided by sunlight might well be the spark needed to touch off new clusters of thunderstorms and downpours. That's just how these 'zones' work until they finally pass (which will happen tonight).

After this, we've got some improving skies and returning sunshine ahead of us, though each morning will look murky in the valleys and campgrounds where fog should form (there's a lot of new water on the ground and it will enhance fog formation when temperatures dip to their lowest before sunrise).

The next system we're watching is unfortunately now wanting to target the upcoming weekend. Yes, it will keep any growing heat at-bay, but that's little solace during these all-important times when so many outdoor events will be going on around the region. We'll have to keep an eye on this, hoping things change (etc), but also maybe to develop any precautions to mitigate getting caught in the rain.

Next week will again exhale into some pleasant weather, but that will gradually turn less so when the normal 'heat' of summer begins to approach again. We'll have to see if our next 'heat wave' is on the table, or if enough humidity kicks in to pop storms up as a trade-off. It's way too far out at this point to lean to either side.

Stripes of 2-5" of rainfall observed over the past 24 hours will prolong the minor flooding that has been impacting the western Ohio Valley. The heavy rain has also generated new areas of minor flooding.
