Last week marked the conclusion of our Citizens Police Academy, and we were proud to celebrate the graduation of this group of attendees. Over the course of ten weeks, participants had the opportunity to learn more about our department, policing, and the work we do to serve our community.

Thank you to everyone who participated and dedicated their time throughout this great ten-week session. Congratulations to our graduates, and thank you for your continued support and engagement with our department!

This morning members of the Portsmouth Police Department were honored to participate in the annual MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) walk held in Coventry, RI.

This year’s walk honored Patrol Officer Ryan Bourque of the Jamestown Police Department who was killed by an impaired driver 10 years ago on his way home from his shift. The Portsmouth team was able to raise $1575 for MADD in memory of Officer Bourque. Thank you to those who supported this cause and a special thank you to the Portsmouth Police union IBPO Local #302 for their support of this MADD event.

Impaired driving continues to take lives and impact families and communities every day. If you plan to drink, make a plan for a safe ride home. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, or call someone you trust. One decision can save a life.
