Dear Members,

Unfortunately, we have a case of COVID-19 positive within our membership. The last time this member visited the Center was on Tuesday, Jan. 5th and developed a fever soon after. They immediately went for a test and it was positive.

Since we make the health of our members and staff our utmost priority, we will be closed until Monday, Jan. 25th as a precaution.

To our knowledge, no staff or other members have reported being sick. Rest assured that we will sanitize the Center and be ready for your return or Monday, Jan. 25th. If circumstances should change the reopening date, you will be notified by email and posted on Facebook.

Thank you for your understanding.

New class offering! EDITED

Introduction to Meditation
Join Susan as she teaches her first class at the Center.
Meditation helps you focus on the present, which can improve your concentration on other tasks in daily life. Meditation encourages you to slow down, allows for deeper self-reflection, and can help you discover positive attributes about yourself. Meditation can also improve your memory.
A specific form of meditation that may be particularly helpful is Kundalini, which focuses on primal energy. Kundalini meditation is a way of channeling your energy and releasing yourself from stress and living on "auto-pilot." You will leave class feeling renewed and relaxed.
Starts Wednesday, Oct. 7th
Every Wednesday from 10:15 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Cost: Free
Bring a yoga mat or sit in chair.
Instructor: Susan Phillips, Certified Yoga Instructor, Specialty Kundalini Meditation
Register with Susan.

When we reopen, whose game to start a weight loss group? I will need a lot of help and support, ha!!!! But true.

03/31/2020

Hello Members. I hope all are well. Looks like we will be closed for awhile. Just have to take it a day at a time as we all see how this pandemic plays out. We are missing and thinking about all of you. For the gardeners, we changed our staff hours to 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Know, however, that these hours may change again. Better to call the Center first before coming in to work on garden.

Being productive while we are closed! Beautiful!!!! Actually I’m just watching😁

***IMPORTANT NOTICE***

Beazley Senior Center will be closed starting Monday, March 16th until further notice as a precaution to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

While the majority of people recover from the virus, public health officials and the medical community tell us that adults age 60 and older and those with pre-existing medical conditions have a greater risk of serious illness. Therefore, Beazley Senior Center is taking this step to reduce the chances of infection and to keep our members safe.

BSC staff will continue to be at the Center during the closure, and we will keep you updated as to when the Center may reopen. Unfortunately, we will have to reschedule a few already planned events, and we will notify you as soon as we can once we reopen.

03/09/2020

The Center is a very public place. Please read the following copied from the CDC website regarding the coronavirus.

This is especially important for the elderly with compromised immune system!

There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:

Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.
CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

The Fired Arts Studio will be closed on Monday, Sept. 24th from 10:00 - 1:00. You may use the Studio after 1:00.

We will be making up our Mug Class that was cancelled due to the threat of hurricane. Thank you!

09/12/2018

As you have noticed, the Center has been closed since Tuesday. Portsmouth Public Schools announced they would be closed until further notice due to the impending inclement weather due to the hurricane. Even though the weather has been nice the last few days, I believe the mandatory evacuations were the reason for the closures. In any case, the staff did go in and we did a lot of cleaning! Ha! Staff will NOT be at the Center Thursday or Friday.

Please, all be safe and prepared. Before coming in Monday, check local news for closures.

I only wish I had found out about the BSC earlier. I highly recommend the greeting card making class. Lovely ladies with great skills and are willing to help others. You will not be disappointed. Supportive teacher. I also highly recommend the beginners' line dancing class. Great music and friendly supportive classmates. Wonderful teacher. Visit the web site to find out what they offer for free or for a very small fee.
