Everything seems to have cleared from the area. We are thankful nothing actually touched down. But we did get reports of a Funnel Cloud south and east of Postville. That would be why the Tornado sirens were set off! Fingers crossed this is it for severe weather this week!

PVFD is currently out weather spotting. We will try to keep you up to date as best we can!

4/17/2026 A Tornado Watch has been issued for much of the area until 8PM. The main threats with this watch are large hail, damaging winds, and the potential for a few tornadoes. Be sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings since there's a high probability we'll be issuing some this afternoon/evening.

Are you prepared for another significant weather event tomorrow??

One more round of severe weather returns for Friday afternoon and evening before the pattern turns quiet for the weekend and early next week. Storms develop over southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin in the afternoon on Friday and move east into the evening. There is an increasing signal (20-40% chance) that storms could be more isolated earlier in the afternoon before evolving into a line later in the evening. If this scenario occurs, the threat for large hail (2-3” diameter) and multiple tornadoes (EF1-EF3) increases quickly. Stay weather aware tomorrow!

Rest Easy Brother

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our fellow firefighter, Jeremy Weiss. Jeremy was a dedicated member of our department, serving in multiple roles over the years. As a past Training Officer and Captain, he played a vital part in preparing and mentoring our team. Jeremy’s commitment was evident in his willingness to stand by at the Spillville Fireworks for many years, ensuring the safety of all attendees.

He embodied community spirit, walking countless miles in the Festina Fourth of July parade and serving chicken noodle soup at numerous Calmar events. Jeremy was often among the first to arrive at the station, responding to calls at all hours with unwavering dedication. His service and devotion left a lasting impact on our department and the communities we serve.

While our hearts are broken by this loss, we extend our deepest sympathy to Jeremy’s mother, family, and all who loved and cared for him. His legacy of service, kindness, and commitment will not be forgotten.
