‼ A TEXTING SCAM is firing up again! Remember – the Iowa DOT does not send out fee collection reminders via text, and will never text customers asking for private or financial information. If you receive a message:

* DO NOT click on any links or provide personal or credit card information.
* Report and delete unwanted text messages. Use your phone’s “report junk” option to report unwanted texts to your messaging app or forward them to 7726 (SPAM).

As per Iowa code vandalism is classified as Criminal Mischief (Chapter 716) with penalties from Simple Misdemeanor to Class C Felony.

It has been brought to our attention that a jury duty scam has been circling around the area. It has been reported that a caller informed an individual that they would be marked as “Did Not Respond” if they did not comply to the demands of the caller.

This is a reminder that all jury duty inquires are sent via mail. If you have any questions please contact us or the Clerk Of Courts office directly at 563-568-6351.

Residents of Postville,

First and Second class consumer fireworks are permitted within city limits until 12:30 a.m. on January 1st, subject to certain restrictions. The use of fireworks on public property, including sidewalks, roadways, parking lots, and parks, is strictly prohibited. Fireworks may only be used on private property with the owner's permission.

Please be advised that enforcement will be strict, with fines starting at a minimum of $250 for non-compliance.

Additionally, Iowa's hands-free driving law, which was enacted in July of this year, will take full effect at 12:00 a.m. on January 1st. Further information can be found at https://dps.iowa.gov/media/2700/download?inline.
