Un-bear-able News from LCCAN! 🐾💙
We had a "furry" important visitor drop by the LeFlore County Child Advocacy Center!
He’s officially joined the team with his very own LCCAN T-shirt to represent Child Abuse Prevention Month.
If you see a bear in a tee playing with our blue pinwheels, don't worry—he’s just helping us spread awareness!

We stand in mourning with LeFlore County as we honor the life of a fallen Deputy. Our prayers are with his family, his law enforcement brothers and sisters, and the Wister Police Chief as he continues his recovery. May they all find peace, comfort, and strength in the days ahead.

💙Honor the Journey & Support the Future💙
April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, a time to shift our focus toward the incredible resilience of survivors. Healing is a Journey, and no one should have to walk it alone,
This month, we highlight the vital role of trauma-informed care and accessible mental health services. By providing the right support at the right time, we empower survivors to move beyond their past and build their own strength-not by what they've endured.

How can you help:
*Advocate for trauma-informed practices in your schools and workplace.
*Support local organizations providing mental health resources to youth.
*Listen with empathy and remind survivors that their past does not dictate their potential.
Together, we can build a community where every child has the safety and support they need to thrive.

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

At LCCAN, we stand with survivors and are committed to helping break the cycle of violence through awareness, education, and prevention. Domestic violence doesn’t just affect adults—it deeply impacts children who witness or hear it. Together, we can create safer homes, stronger families, and a more hopeful future for every child in LeFlore County.

LeFlore County Crisis Services works directly with victims of domestic violence, offering support, shelter, and resources to help survivors find safety and healing. We’re grateful for their partnership and the critical work they do every day in our community.

You can help by:
💜 Learning the signs of abuse
💜 Speaking up if you suspect someone is in danger
💜 Supporting local programs that provide safety and healing

Let’s shine a light on prevention and stand united against domestic violence.

💙 A big thank you to Project Linus of Western Arkansas for keeping us stocked with beautiful blankets for the children we serve here at LCCAN.
A blanket may seem small, but for a child, it can bring comfort and a sense of security during a difficult time. Each child gets to take one home, and it truly means so much.
We are so grateful for your continued generosity! 🧸🧵(Pictured are just a few of the gorgeous blankets recently donated.)

📣 Community Help Needed: Clothing for Kids & Teens 👕👖👟

Dear Latimer and LeFlore County friends,

Here at LeFlore County Child Advocacy Network (LCCAN), we serve children of all ages who are going through incredibly difficult situations. Many of these children arrive with little to no clothing — and this is especially true for our adolescents, who are often the most in need and the hardest to fit.

We’re reaching out to our amazing community for help. 💙
We are in need of clothing for children and teens, especially:

Shirts & pants (sizes for ages 10–18)

Shoes

Hoodies/jackets

New socks and underwear

Hygiene items (optional but appreciated)

Every donation makes a difference and helps restore dignity and comfort to these young lives.

If you’d like to help or need more info on drop-off locations, feel free to message us here or contact our office directly at 918-647-3814. 🧡

🚨 Know the Red Flags: Protecting Children Starts with Us 🚨

At LCCAN, we believe every child deserves to feel safe, heard, and protected. 🧡 As adults, we play a critical role in recognizing the warning signs of child abuse and neglect—and speaking up when something doesn’t seem right.

Here are some common red flags to look for:

Physical Signs

🔸 Unexplained bruises, burns, or injuries

🔸 Frequent absences from school

🔸 Wearing long sleeves in warm weather (possibly to hide injuries)

Behavioral Changes

🔸 Sudden changes in behavior or school performance

🔸 Withdrawn, anxious, or overly aggressive behavior

🔸 Reluctance to go home or be around certain individuals

Neglect Indicators

🔸 Poor hygiene or consistently dirty clothing

🔸 Untreated medical issues

🔸 Constant hunger or hoarding food

Sexual Abuse Warning Signs

🔸 Knowledge of sexual behavior beyond age-appropriate levels

🔸 Avoidance of certain people or places

🔸 Nightmares or bedwetting

If you see something that concerns you, trust your instincts. Reporting your concerns can save a child’s life.

🛑 Cyberbullying is Real. Let's Talk About It. 🛑

In today's digital world, words can hurt just as much as actions. Behind every screen is a real person with real feelings. Cyberbullying isn’t just “online drama” — it’s emotional abuse that can have lasting effects on mental health, self-esteem, and even someone’s life.

💬 Mean comments, threats, public shaming, and exclusion all count
📱 It can happen on social media, in texts, games, and even school platforms

We all have a role to play:
✅ Speak up when you see bullying
✅ Support those being targeted
✅ Think before you type
✅ Report abusive behavior online

Let’s make the internet a safer, kinder place for everyone.
