We were having lunch today at El Rincon De Poteet when we were visited by the Atascosa Unit of The Salvation Army. It was perfect timing, as we had just finished our meal and were considering dessert.

The donuts were amazing. Thank you very much for your generosity and for thinking of us.

To some, Memorial Day is simply a holiday for celebration and a three-day weekend.

To others, however, it is a day to remember the fallen brothers and sisters who fought by their side and made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. For them, there is no celebration other than the celebration of life.

Today serves as a solemn reminder that our freedom was not free and that many paid a hefty price. To the men and women who made that payment: thank you. You are not forgotten.
